About me:
i'm 27 and live in edinburgh with my hubby and my cat chomper. i've just finished my master in social work and started my job as a criminal justice social worker. its quite scary but i'm loving it as the people i'm working with are awesome. i work with people who commit and are convicted of offences and our job is to try to support them to desist offending, cope with custody or re-integrate into society. many of the people we work with have had complex challenges to deal with in their lives and deserve a break and i suppose that's at the heart of the work we do together. although i'm quite new to it, i love my job and have an interesting group of clients on my caseload. its never a dull moment but i seriously cannot imagine a more fullfilling, challenging or inspirational job. this is definately my calling and i feel i can actually make a wee difference in my work and help the individuals i set out to reach. i'm work with clients in the office lots of the time and other times i'll be working with them at home with their families or in the prisons around bonny scotland.
music-wise i'm a massive lover of the rave scene and over the years have enjoyed many different nights/benders ranging from beach and forest parties to club nights in various cities round the country. for me, music was a spiritual awakening and continues to be an important part of my life!
my family are from kinross but i spent many years living in aberdeen and got really into techno and getting mashed at a club called the pelican which was legendary.
when i went to uni in edinburgh i swayed more towards drum and bass but still went to many outdoor crusty raver parties which hold lots of special memories of drinking buckie and clambering about quarries having fun.
i'm now a morally responsible social worker (some of the time!) so will have to behave, but will definately still be popping back onto the club scene now and again with my lovely man for a bit of a bounce and nostalgia!
my philosophies in life are centered around socialism and human rights. i'm constantly shocked at how terribly our society treats vulnerable, excluded people who struggle to have their voices heard. all around the world greedy, selfish bastards enforce their capitalist views and practices on people without giving them the choice to protect their cultures and more meaningful ways of life. some of the people i have worked with over the years have taught me so much about life. despite having hiv, being in care or literally having struggled to survive every day of their lives most are funny, positive, inspirational people. i am overwhelmed at the amazing resiliance some of these unsung heros have and will always look up to them.
my goals in life are to stive for me and my husband to be happy and healthy, and to do my job well to care for and support people who need empowerment to get where they'd like to be in life.
