Abby's Interests
|
| General | There are very few things I don't like, although base jumping would probably be one of them. And parachuting...and killing people. Come to think of it, there are several things I don't like, most of which are illegal. I write for the college newspaper, I act sometimes, and have been known to get down with my bad self on occasion. Oh yes. | | Music | About the music on my profile:
I've been doing a lot of listening this year, more so than in years past (thanks to the Lawrence music scene for that!). The songs here are some of my favorites. I've loved "Perfect Timing" since the iphone commercial, and only just found out that it was a real song, by the band Orba Squara. It is awesome. "Postcards to Nina" by Jens Lekman is probably my favorite song I've heard all year. I got to see LCD Soundsystem, Art Brut and Gogol Bordello in concert this year, and they were all amazing. I actually got to meet Eugene Hutz and (from Art Brut) Jasper Future. I told Jasper he reminded me of Ian Curtis. He said thanks and assured me he wasn't contemplating suicide. It was magical.
Hurra Torpedo is pretty hard to explain. Just watch the video. If you do happen to leave a comment on my page, tell me if you've ever heard a better rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (counting Bonnie Tyler's original version) | | Movies | I'm addicted to British humor of all sorts. Favorite movies: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Life of Brian, Bright Young Things, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, I Heart Huckabees, Time Bandits, 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead (old and new versions), The Life Aquatic and The Royal Tenenbaums. I'm also into lots of obscure movies that people have either forgotten about or don't know exist. | | Television | Again, Python and any BBC stuff I can find anywhere. I love "My Family" and "Black Books". Dylan Moran is a comedic genius. I'm also a big fan of LOST, House and the American version of The Office, though the BBC version rocks, too. Oh, and Dr. Who, The Mighty Boosh and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. Fun fun fun.
I'm slowly but surely introducing myself to the wide world of anime. So far Shinichiro Watanabe ("Samurai Champloo", "Cowboy Bebop") and Miyazaki ("Spirited Away", "Howl's Moving Castle", "Princess Mononoke", etc.) are the only two I actively like. | | Books | My literary heroes: Gerald Morris, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Chuck Palahniuk, Kurt Vonnegut, J.D. Salinger.
Journalistic heroes: John Reed, Matt Taibbi, Chuck Klosterman | | Heroes | Batman, Superman, Green Arrow and Claude Raines the Invisible man (from "Heroes") |
