Influences
Initially we wanted to play music that had influences from bands like Morbid Angel (circa Altars of Madness), Bolt Thrower and Carcass. There were several other bands that influenced us, but the overall musical themes and style was mostly derived from these few bands, to which we added our own flavour.
Lyrical themes were of death, religion, desecration, necrophilia and other ghastly perversions.
The band was formed in Finland in early 1989 and after playing some time under several different names the name Abhorrence stuck. After recording one demo tape we got an offer to do a 7" EP, which we did. Bunch of gigs around Finland, a short visit to Norway (one gig with Cadaver and a party/sleepover at black metal band Mayhem's house) later, the band broke up in 1990.
Shortly after this Relapse Records contacted us with an recording deal offer. Timing, eh? That offer helped Amorphis in getting signed to Relapse a bit later.
The band got really nice feedback all thought its career and started to gain momentum after its demise. Somewhere after mid-90's, the band had gathered quite a following in the underground death metal scene and was considered to be a band with "kvlt" status.
The band is not being resurrected, but all of the recordings are planned to be put out on a CD. A small run of t-shirts are also in this list of things to do. (this in mid-2009)
