  • Bio

Abikyokan formed around the core trio of Jacob Arntson (Seattle, USA), Grant McGaheran (Sheffield, UK) and Tatsumi Ochiai (Chiba, Japan) in Tokyo in 2004. The band pool a wide variety of influences to create a new avant-pop sound. Live, the band see no song as ever finished, and improvise on their music without boundaries. The band has no leader, each member plays a variety of instruments and guest musicians often join the band onstage. Together with DJing, producing and remixing, the members of Abikyokan see the band as an outlet for musical energy and a chance to shake up a music scene they feel is intensely dull and cliched. 2006's Zuper album saw the band fusing free jazz and blues influences with a love of Italo disco and machine funk. Novaya Zemyla, takes hip hop, African pop and Japanese enka into the mix. Now with Grant on the drums and new bass player Craig Exton, the band are releasing songs and videos for their Star Panic project.

  • Sounds Like

At the moment, mutant electro-blues, melancholy psychedelic disco, pumping gothic exercise music, ambient jazz nightmares. Subject to change at any time.
