Able Warrior Self Defense's Blurbs |
About me:
Able Warrior Self Defense is a self-defense system designed by disabled warriors for other disabled warriors. Our system incorporates elements of Dan Zan Ryu Ju-Jitsu as well as many other martial arts. The primary creater of the system is Sensei Robert Kunkel. Sensei Kunkel is a 4th Dan master of Dan Zan Ryu Ju-Jitsu. Sensei Kunkel is a vietnam veteran who was injured in combat. He has been involed in the martial arts for over 25 years. He has taught self-defense techniques to members of the law enforcement community as well as our men and women of the armed forces. Sesnei Kunkel has been visiting wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for over four years. He has given demonstrations of self-defense techniques for the disabled and able bodied, to include women's self-defense. Joe Beimfohr is the co-founder of the Able Warrior system. Joe is a retired Army Staff Sergeant who was severly injured while fighting in Iraq. Bob and Joe crossed paths one day at the Walter Reed cafeteria and Bob mentioned that he was a martial arts instructor. Not quite sure of what a disabled person could do from a wheelchair, Joe agreed to meet with Bob for a demonstration. The rest as they say, is history. That was over two years ago. Since that time, Joe and Bob have been training and teaching other veterans how to defend themselves. Because of Joe's injuries, Bob had to modify many techniques, so that they could be used by someone who is in a wheelchair. This is where the idea of the Able Warrior system evolved from. Our system is in its infancy, and we will continue to develop and perfect it over time. We are commited to teaching people who have various disabilities that self defense is possible. We have taught soldiers who have amputations of the legs, arms, and even some who are blind how to defend themselves. Our mission is to show people that self defense can be learned by anyone. Check out our pictures to see some of what we can do!!!
