About me: In March 2006 I joined a Dragon Boat team and now want to start a team that is made up of only breast cancer survivors. There are already teams of just survivors all over the world, but not in Arizona! The sport decreases the chances of developing lymphedema and is a great source of friends, fun and fitness!
Dragon Boating has been around for thousands of years and requires a team of about 20 paddlers. Any age or physical ability can join in the fun.
If YOU would like to come see what Dragon Boating is all about, join us at Tempe Town Lake for practice! You can email me at anthgrad@yahoo.com if you'd like to know when our pracitices are for the week ...they are usually 8-10a on Saturdays.
Who I'd like to meet: The first team made up of breast cancer survivors was started by Dr. Don McKenzie, a sports medicine physician at the University of British Columbia in 1996. The team is called "Abreast in a Boat" and thier link is

Hi DL- I was thinking maybe we could get our Dragon Boat survivors to be on the Tempe Town Lake during the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk around the lake. What do you think? The will be walking around the lake the same time we usually have practice! Let me know! -S
How are you? I am wonderful!!! Just wanted to post comments to each and everyone of you, to let you all know I appreciate each and everyone of you!! Thanks for being part of my life!
Have a wonderful week, and take care!! Have a safe and happy 4th of July!! Much love to ya, Kim
Hey there! I hear that this is becoming so big that they are going to have a NON-BCsurvivor team as well. Love seeing the sport grow! The more the merrier!
See you Sat for pracitice!
Ahoy, from the home of the founding breast cancer dragonboater team!! One of the originals, Dr. Susan Harris (a 2X survivor!), was actually a survivor mentor of mine too, and one of the UBC physio professors who helped develop the program for post-mastectomy upper body rehabilitation.
I'm thrilled you're building your own dragon boat survivor team, and look forward to seeing you race up in Vancouver one day soon.
Your survivor sister, Fergie, in Vancouver, BC, Canada X
Thank you for the friend request. I really like your page and I think it's so neat what you are doing with making a team for breast cancer survivors. God bless you and congratulations on your win over breast cancer!
Hey Dragon Lady-
Just wanted to say I think the cool down exercises really helped me last Saturday. I only felt a little sore the next day! See you this weekend! And thanks for the add!
