The band is created by Yannick Donet, contemporary composer and researcher in sound art (EDESAC), and by Frédéric Bailly, activist of the underground musical French stage (Guerilla Underground) and member of La Division Mentale (B: F: D / Twilight Vertrieb). Since September 2003, Absent develops a semi-experimental music and cinematographic substance, and consider his work as a tribute of fantastic movies and electronic culture.
The french press (Polystyrene, D-Side, Fear Drop, Le Fantastique, ...)
notices the original style of the band with the release of Absent’s EP in 2004. Then, Frédéric and Yannick perform energetic live sets, which reminds some bands like labels Warp, Leaf or Ninja Tune.
Video-jockey Sylvain Weber appeared in 2005, since then, they played more than sixty dates at Les Rendez-vous Electroniques (Paris), Les Nuits Sonores (Lyon), Why Note Festival (Dijon), Noxious Festival (Vesoul), La Laiterie (Strasbourg), La Vapeur (Dijon), La Cave à Musique (Mâcon), L’OPA (Paris), La Condition
Publique (Roubaix), Le Noumatrouff (Mulhouse), Le Théâtre de l’Espace
(Besançon), L’Intermédiaire (Marseille), etc., and shared the stage with bands such as M83, Thee, Stranded horse, DAAU, Vladislav Delay, Dive, Fox and Pateras…
