"...influences are as clear as day: 60's pop and modern indie rock. And let me tell you, these styles mesh...pure unadulterated awesome, and this show was no different...this band is just straight up fun..."--Deli Magazine SF
"...have also become the new local “band to watch” practically overnight...sunny, quirky, retro surf-pop with contemporary edge..." --StrangerDance.com
"Fresh from the wild waters of the Midwest comes AB & the Sea, a trio of Winneconne, Wisc., buddies who moved to the Bay last year in search of the big wave. Tunes like 'We Love the Life We Got' showcase a winsome beachside campfire vibe, full of catchy melodies and lyrics promoting the simple pleasures of life -- much like the Beach Boys once did." --SF Weekly
"A B & the Sea bring back some old-fashioned surf-pop music that even references California (though… “southern California,” hmm). The guitar effects, cymbal-heavy drum beats and multi-part harmonies are catchy and nostalgic. The band brings these classic elements together with the noticeable influence of modern indie pop bands like Death Cab and The Shins." - The Bay Bridged
Attention: Will the Real Underdog Please Stand Up.
Koley O’Brien, Joseph Spargur, and Zachary Pingel sparing enough change to get by, piled their lives away in an old blue Astro van and charted their map for destination, California. Now, we’ve all heard this story before. Band moves to California and makes it big or goes home. But these small town Wisconsin boys share a different dream. 2009 has already set the tone for the year of change, and these boys are stepping up to plate and swinging away. Combining the basics of old school rock, like that of The Beach Boys and The Beatles, with the intricacies of the modern day indie scene such as the Shins and Death Cab for Cutie, comes A, B & the Sea. Now, for all those who laugh and cackle at the dream of a life on the road I think you’d be surprised. These boys are messing with the bull by the horns and throwing their red flag high to the bay’s windy skies. You can hear their voices some nights on the downtown streets of San Francisco singing for rent money. Their compassion for life drives them to work hard for their happiness. But we need your support. I think it was put best by “V” in the movie “V for Vendetta” when he said, “A revolution without dancing, is a revolution not worth having”. Let us dance together through these times of drought and bring on the revolution. Because the truth is, together, we are all, “The Underdog”.
