Long time friends Koley O'Brien and Joe Spargur founded A B & The Sea January 1st, 2008--not only marking the start of a new year, but a new journey. They packed up their van, waved goodbye to Wisconsin and started making their way to California. After going through a line-up change, A B & The Sea was made complete again with the addition of drummer Troy Lawton, bass player Zak LaVigne and David Hunt on keys. While they're new to San Francisco, the boys have shared the stage with such notable acts as: FUN, The Fruit Bats, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Submarines, The Morning Benders, Dear & The Headlights and The Miniature Tigers. Often referred to as a modern day Beach Boys meets The Beatles, A B & The Sea's beachy, carefree vibes have landed them gigs at many prominent SF venues such as The Independent, Slims, Bimbos & Bottom of the Hill. With a contagious hunger for success, A B & The Sea captured the attention of Chris Chu (The Morning Benders) and Eric Frederic (Wallpaper) & produced new songs at legendary Different Fur Studio in San Francisco.

Featured in SF WEEKLY "BEST OF SF"

These San Franciscans-by-way-of-Wisconsin have overtaken the local indie scene, interjecting themselves on the very best of bills! -7X7

"Multi part vocal harmonies and comfy instrumentals define A B & The Sea" -SF Chronicle

"The spunky act's sound is reminiscent of '60s Top 40 radio--equal parts Beatles and Beach Boys. With flawless harmonies and flashing grins, the group has powerful pop weaponry at its disposal."--SF Weekly

"...influences are as clear as day: 60's pop and modern indie rock. And let me tell you, these styles mesh...pure unadulterated awesome, and this show was no different...this band is just straight up fun..."--Deli Magazine SF

"Fresh from the wild waters of the Midwest comes AB & the Sea, a trio of Winneconne, Wisc., buddies who moved to the Bay last year in search of the big wave. Tunes like 'We Love the Life We Got' showcase a winsome beachside campfire vibe, full of catchy melodies and lyrics promoting the simple pleasures of life -- much like the Beach Boys once did." --SF Weekly

"A B & the Sea bring back some old-fashioned surf-pop music that even references California (though… “southern California,” hmm). The guitar effects, cymbal-heavy drum beats and multi-part harmonies are catchy and nostalgic. The band brings these classic elements together with the noticeable influence of modern indie pop bands like Death Cab and The Shins." - The Bay Bridged
