The band was born as SWARM in Friuli Venezia-Giulia (North-Eastern Italy) in 2003 playing death metal, then in summer 2004 the name turned into the definitive ABYSS OF PAIN. The joining of Alessandro “Bibi”, who added his deep voice and strong presence, let melodic and Nordic sound to melt together with most brutal and aggressive rhythms. The group so formed began to play all around its native Region, becoming one of the most well known new metal band, thanks both to live shows and to the recording of their first demo called “...and pain grows stronger”, in April 2007.
In summer 2007, Abyss of Pain started to promote their CD, playing also as supporter for some famous metal band as Raintime and Slowmotion Apocalypse during festivals.

Year 2008:
In January, the line-up has changed, due to the will of one of the two guitarists to undertake his own musical project.
In March the band signed a collaboration contract with the management agency Alkemist Fanatix.
In April, the metal magazine Grind Zone did the first comment to the demo, showing quite positive reaction.
In May, the band was engaged in two gigs through the South of Italy, obtaining good response.
In June, other two Italian metal magazines – Rock Hard and Metal Maniac – reviewed the demo, talking in positive way and waiting for something great from the band in the coming future.
In October, “..and pain grows stronger” was demo of the month in Metal Hammer, which granted them an interview in the following number of the same magazine.
In November, AoP were proud to be supporting act of NODE in Padova.
Year 2009:
In January AoP joined “The Great Metal Complotto”, a 14 tracks compilation of metal bands from Pordenone;
In the same month, the band made a big step ahead recording its first official album at Nick Savio’s “Remaster Studio” in Vicenza: this interesting and accurate work now needs a label to fly high!
