Born and raised in Shreveport, LA, Kix Brooks cut his teeth on a variety of regional musical styles ranging from Cajun to Blues to Jazz to Country. ..Brooks, a natural performer, began playing in clubs and other venues while in high school. He also began writing songs around that same time. After stints in New Orleans and Maine, he eventually landed in Nashville, where he joined Tree Publishing Company. Shortly thereafter, Brooks began to make a name for himself as a songwriter, with cuts by such artists as Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Conlee and Highway 101... ..In 1990, Brooks teamed with Ronnie Dunn to form Brooks & Dunn. In the last 16 years, Kix and Ronnie have sold more than 30 million records, while racking up 80 major industry awards and 23 1 hits along the way. Brooks & Dunn have won more CMA and ACM awards than any other duo in history... ..In referring to Brooks' new role as host of American Country Countdown, John McConnell, Senior Vice President of ABC Radio Networks states, “The thing about Kix – not only is he a consummate entertainer, he loves what he does – and he has done it as completely as anyone I've ever seen.
