About me:
Hmm, I don't like writing about myself. I tend to write in a bland manner, yet I don't think I am bland. Either way -- Here goes: I grew up in Saint Louis, and... nah.. thats boring... Let me start again: I just moved to Sao Paulo Brasil, after living in Bangkok for the past 4 years... Im loving it so far, and am thoroughly enjoying the change of culture. While I still love Bangkok and Thailand in general, I really needed a change of scenery and culture, and Brasil is doing quite nicely in that regard. I plan on splitting my time between Sao Paulo and Bangkok, living in each city for 6 months per year... Ill be back in Bangkok early May... but will be keeping my apt in Sao Paulo...
Who I'd like to meet:
No one specific. I can tell you what I like and dont like in a person though -- I like people who are honest with themselves and others (they are who they say they are, accept who they are, and like who they are -- defects and all). I dislike: babys, closemindedness, "scenes", shallow people, and anyone who refers to themselves as a princess.

Danny called & said Aunt Rita Mae (grandpas sister) died Friday down in Salem. He's at the lake so I don't have a ride to the funeral.
That's ok, my very first boyfriend is in town, haven't seen him in 44 yrs! We're having fun! 555!

Robert Rauschenberg, Titan of American Art, Is Dead at 82

By MICHAEL KIMMELMAN
Published: May 14, 2008

Robert Rauschenberg, the irrepressibly prolific American artist who time and again reshaped art in the 20th century, died Monday night. He was 82.

His death was confirmed by his gallery, PaceWildenstein in Manhattan.

Mr. Rauschenberg’s work gave new meaning to sculpture. “Canyon,” for instance, consisted of a stuffed bald eagle attached to a canvas. “Monogram” was a stuffed Angora goat girdled by a tire atop a painted panel. “Bed” entailed a quilt, sheet and pillow, slathered with paint, as if soaked in blood, framed on the wall. They all became icons of postwar modernism.

A painter, photographer, printmaker, choreographer, onstage performer, set designer and, in later years, even a composer, Mr. Rauschenberg defied the traditional idea that an artist stick to one medium or style. He pushed, prodded and sometimes reconceived all the mediums in which he worked.

Building on the legacies of Marcel Duchamp, Kurt Schwitters, Joseph Cornell and others, he thereby helped to obscure the lines between painting and sculpture, painting and photography, photography and printmaking, sculpture and photography, sculpture and dance, sculpture and technology, technology and performance art — not to mention between art and life.

Now. What?

By Paul Friswold

The Riverfront Times, March 26, 2008

These are dangerous times, friend. Everybody's up on the stump shouting about the future and their plans for what will be, promising that change will manifest only through his or her personal vision. What about now? What about that moment that exists right here — there — and is gone? You can't live for the future — it never comes. You have to make your peace with the present if you're going to have any peace at all.

Learn, Artist! is concerned with right now. The two-guitar, one-bass improvisational band carves out swooping arcs of now, holds them up to the light for the briefest of examinations, and then lets the now combust with dignity and purpose so that something newer can fill the void. Squiggly echoes fold into distant foghorn blasts and become an effervescent haze that lingers no longer than is decent. The future is unwritten, but the present is forever learned.

Learn, Artist! explores the now at 6 p.m. at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum on the Washington University campus (Forsyth and Skinker boulevards; www. kemperartmuseum. wustl. edu or 314-935-4523) as part of the Kemper Presents concert series. Admission is free, and complimentary snacks and Pabst Blue Ribbon beer are provided.
