2009 has been a formative year in the life of Dorset band achilles. – they revamped their line-up and, in the past few months, have garnered national airplay and support from BBC Radio 1 djs Rob da Bank and Huw Stephens. Rob da Bank voted achilles. winners of the Dorset Unsigned Music Awards and subsequently booked them for a Main Stage performance at Camp Bestival, a set which Huw Stephens saw and later tweeted as one of his highlights of the festival.
achilles. are a seven piece, primarily instrumental band. Musically, they bring a genre-defying fresh mix of sounds, drawing influence from Jazz, Rock, Drum and Bass, Electronica, Dub and soundscapes. Rob da Bank described them on his radio show as ‘Fantastic… like DJ Shadow but playing it live.’ They focus less on traditional pop music ethics but more on themes and movements that build to often epic and intense musical experiences with big sounds and provocative images (as illustrated in their 9 minute film for the track Up In Arms) Clickhere to view the Up In Arms video.
achilles. have appeared at Camp Bestival, Larmer Tree, Endorset and Dare2 festivals in 2009. They also have a residency at the Devils Music night on the first Thursday of each month at The Winchester in Bournemouth.
Hey bro! No problem it was great to see you play and meet you :) Sick! i'm in Brighton for a week on the 27th for New Years :) Thanks for the CD, i must have listened to it a good 10times when i got home aha x
Hey. How are you all doing? This is Joe Watkinson here. Just sending you a message so you know it's my band. We should definitely try and gig together sometime soon. I've shown the band your stuff and they really like it. All the best. Hope to hear from you soon x
Ya know what, if you were unsure how that gig went the other night then you are either very humble, have no confidence or have no idea just how good a band you are! I think its the latter. Can't wait fot the new stuff.
Clearly from seeing you last night at Bournemouth you have been working very hard on your music. Honestly guys it was awesome, the best I've ever heard you for sure. Keep it coming!
Big up lads, still rocking hard I hope. Gonna come check you at your next night at the Winchester. If you are ever in need of a DnB DJ give me a shout.
Fo' sho Home-dizzle...or something....? Yeah will try to make it this time. i'll plan to get there 2 hours earlier, that way, with my shit timing, i'll get there when you start playing. Good times. How was the eventful night in Chiswick?
