ACME STL is the local Saint Louis chapter of the "Action Coalition For Media Education".

ACME's mission states:

"We are the most heavily mediated society in world history. Powerful media tools—print, radio, television, the Internet—can bring a rich diversity of information into every home and school. Yet just a few corporate players control much of the media system that shapes our culture." For more info,

please visit: http://www.acmecoalition.org/

This division is currently being established by the Media Literacy & Reform group at Webster University in Saint Louis. Our official website will be available soon ... more news later!

Who I'd like to meet:
We'd like to meet anyone who values Media Literacy and Reform. We also especially welcome those involved in education, politics, journalism, and the media production arts industries - be it broadcast journalism, radio/TV production, film, video, photography, graphic design, theatre, etc ...

From Imus to Jena
and Several Sharpton Stops in Between:
The Media's Role in Racial Polarization
by Mark Albrecht, local civil/human rights and media activist

Sunday, February 24, 2008
11am - Noon

The tragic Don Imus and Jena 6 situations were two of the biggest stories highlighted by the media in 2007. And the term "race" served as the backdrop. Predictably, the African-American, dynamic duo of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton stepped up to participate and serve as "de-facto?" representatives as national dialogue began. But what exactly are Sharpton and Jackson's roles, who appoints them, and what are the effects of their participation in these types of situations?

Additionally, what kind of dialogue did we end up with as a nation? Are we better off for it? How was that dialogue moderated? And what role did the media play in all of this?

This event is FREE and open to the public

Just dropped by to thank you for supporting our boycott of Fox Films' Flicka, and for being my Friend!

Our Boycott Flicka campaign has been the most successful grassroots boycott of a major studio production in the history of the film industry!

According to film industry analysts the boycott cost Fox TWELVE MILLION DOLLARS at the box office!

Fox Films has lost money on Flicka!

How stupid are these people?

They Could Have Been Heroes!

When a horse was cruelly killed filming a wild horse race scene, I suggested they make a substantial donation to horse rescue groups; help to end horse slaughter and promise to never again endanger an animal. They told me to get lost!

Our campaign is now taking aim at the American Humane Association, which allowed the studio to abuse and kill that poor horse!

We are demanding that the Sreen Actors Guild end its relationship with, and funding of, American Humane!

If you haven't visted my page recently, please drop by. There's a bunch of new info and pics.

Most importantly, Subscribe To My Blog!

Thanks so much!

Support Pro-Community Video Franchise Laws in Missouri

Background

Under the guise of “competition” (often echoed in Jefferson City), AT&T (formerly SBC), the company that dominates telephone, cellular, Internet and satellite TV wants to get even bigger with SB 284, the video franchise bill that’s currently moving trough the Missouri Legislature. This bill will eliminate local municipal authority to regulate cable TV franchises.

At it’s core, AT&T backed legislation dumps long-standing commitments of local governments to meet community needs, discriminates against entire neighborhoods by allowing AT&T to only serve areas it chooses, threatens Public, Educational and Government (PEG) access programming, dilutes consumer protections, and endangers local communications networks that support public safety, schools, emergency services and municipal communications.

What We Support

ACME St. Louis and the Mo-PEG Coalition support video franchising laws that:
1) Require video providers to make their service available to all neighborhoods in a community.
2) Protect Public Service/Educational (PEG) Access by ensuring carriage of existing and future PEG stations with adequate funding to operate.
3) Maintain local government’s control over its rights of way, including the right to create communications networks.
4) Protect consumers with meaningful competition and strong customer service standards.
5) Maintain a free and open Internet.

Who We Are

ACME St. Louis and the Mo-PEG Coalition are part of a coalition of Missouri students, nonprofit organizations, municipalities, educational institutions, and PEG Access stations committed to protecting the public interest in Missouri telecommunications legislation.

What You Can Do

Please take a moment to write or call your representative and talk with them about your concerns. To make it a little easier, we have set up a web-based letter which you can e-mail and fax at the same time. Just go to this address and follow the instructions:

I am so tired of the mediocre music that is being played on the radio stations that I made KDHX the only station I listen to. They are the only radio station where payola is not evident. The music industry between the major labels has gotten so bad that even the music award shows have become unbearable to watch. Since when did the music industry revolve around Justin Timberlake?
