Bio
Act IV is a for a Smashing Pumpkins fan charity project. On December 7, 2000, just days after the Pumpkins took the stage for the last time (until they reformed in 2007), Steven Pukin proposed the idea of a Smashing Pumpkins tribute concert to fans around the world through various SP message boards and mailing lists. The idea was to pay tribute to the band we loved, promote new music inspired by SP, bring fans together, and continue the charity work that the band had started with the 1998 Adore Charity Tour. Fast forward 7 months and we had a show at the legendary Metro nightclub in Chicago on July 7, 2001, where the Pumpkins got their start as a four-piece. Pumpkins fans from everywhere from San Diego to South Africa took to the stage and performed with their bands (or by themselves) to pay tribute to SP. Most of these performers were not cover bands, but original artists, who had the opportunity not only to play SP songs, but original songs as well! Headlining the show was Chicago mainstays, KILL HANNAH. Along with the many artists that contributed to the cause, we also received a few unexpected special guests. These included BJORN THORSRUD (SP sound engineer/producer), BILLY CORGAN SR, and the man himself, BILLY CORGAN. It was quite the honor to have all those Pumpkin alum share the night with us and all the fans and bands. Benefiting Make-A-Wish, the day was redeclared Smashing Pumpkins Day by Mayor Daley of Chicago, as it had been back in 1998 during the Pumpkins charity tour stop in their hometown. Act IV has since spawned another concert (Act IV 2002 on July 5, 2002), two SP tribute charity compilations (Ghost Children and Ghost Children 2/Friends and Enemies), one live cd (StillComingTogether: The Best of Act IV 2001), a DVD set for Act IV 2002, and a free digital EP (Ghost Children/Machines of God). -
Members
Act IV is not a band itself, but a non-profit project organized by Smashing Pumpkins fans to pay tribute to SP, promote new music influenced by the band, and carry on the charity work that the Pumpkins have inspired in us. The project organizers have elicited demos and performances by bands/artists from all over the world. -
Influences
Every band or artist affiliated with Act IV has been influenced by The Smashing Pumpkins in some way. However, the individual influences of those who have contributed to Act IV's projects (Concerts, compilations, etc) varies from musician to musician or band to band. -

SP: THE EARLY YEARS COVER SONG CONTEST!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Four years ago, Act IV and ThePumpkins.net collaborated on the successful Zeitgest Cover Song Contest, where fans were asked to submit covers of their favorite Zeitgeist era tracks to win some cool Smashing Pumpkins-related prizes. Now, with the recent re-issues of the first two classic Smashing Pumpkins albums, Gish and Siamese Dream, Act IV and ThePumpkins.net are collaborating to once again bring the fans another special contest.
The SP: THE EARLY YEARS COVER SONG CONTEST will be along similar lines to the Zeitgeist cover song contest. But this time around, fans are asked to submit covers of their favorite Pumpkins originals spanning the early part of The Smashing Pumpkins’ career (1988-1994), from the earliest pre-Gish demos to Pisces Iscariot and Vieuphoria. In addition to winning some great Pumpkins-related merch, the winners of the contest will earn a spot on an extended version of Ghost Children/Machines of God, a digital EP being given away as a free incentive with the Ghost Children 2/Friends and Enemies charity compilation. Two spots are up for grabs, with the ‘Best Cover Song’ being awarded by selection committee, and the ‘Fan Favorite Cover’ being selected by you, the fans!
The winners of both the ‘Best Cover Song’ and ‘Fan Favorite Cover’ selections will receive:
1) A copy of the Deluxe CD/DVD re-issues of both Gish and Siamese Dream
2) A spot on the extended version of the Ghost Children/Machines of God digital EP.
3) A copy of the Ghost Children 2/Friends and Enemies charity CD, the Ghost Children/Machines of God digital EP, and a recently unearthed original CD copy of the Ghost Children compilation, not available to the public for nearly 10 years!
For the contest, organizers have reached out to all corners of The Smashing Pumpkins Fan Community for help. We are pleased to announce exciting partnerships with our Pumpkins fan site sponsors, Blamo.org/Siva, Crestfallen.com, Ozphoria, SPFreaks, and Starla.org, who will be celebrating their 15th anniversary in 2012.
Act IV also would like to welcome back, Neil Main, the creator of the popular, original Ghost Children charity compilation, to the fold. Neil was also an integral participant and collaborator with the Act IV organizers during the two Act IV charity concerts at the legendary Metro in Chicago in 2001 and 2002. The organizers also welcome, Ashley Fahey, former webmaster of the Smashing Pumpkins UK fan group.
In addition, we have developed a special partnership with Tranquilizer Records, an online record store specializing in indie music and its sister organization, Tranquilizer Radio, an online radio station and fan community.
All contest entrants are invited to join their fan community and contact Tranquilizer to explore the possibility of having your cover and your original music featured on the radio (where applicable), being interviewed on air, and much more!
Depending on the success of the contest, organizers will consider the possibility of future contests and digital releases. So keep CD quality versions of your covers available, just in case! Please note that covers of songs the Pumpkins covered themselves will not be accepted. Before uploading your cover, please carefully review the Contest Rules.
Submissions will be accepted starting on December 21, 2011 and the contest will run until February 21, 2012.
After the submission deadline passes, voting will commence. The winners are tentatively set to be announced on March 17, 2012.

Act IV-Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
No Act IV is not a band or set of musicians itself. There are several instances on this myspace alone that illustrate that we are not a band: the photo gallery that includes bands like Alluvion from Kentucky who recorded a cover for our Ghost Children 2 compilation, or a somewhat more well-known band, Kill Hannah, from Chicago, who headlined the first Act IV show; videos from artists that performed at Act IV,etc.
Think of it this way. The Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, and Hooverphonic were a few of the several bands that appeared on the For The Masses Depeche Mode tribute compilation. We all know they are distinctly different bands from across the globe. The bands involved in all the Act IV projects are similarly distinct and from across the globe, and the 2 Ghost Children compilations would be akin to For the Masses, but for SP and for charity.
If Act IV is NOT a band, then what is it?
Act IV is the name of a project started back in December 2000 after the original break up of the Pumpkins. The original aim of this project was to have a 'for the fans, by the fans' tribute charity concert at Metro in Chicago. To achieve this, the organizers invited fans to submit demos, and 7 bands/artists were ultimately selected for the concert on July 7th, 2001. The Chicago mayor's office declared it Pumpkins day in honor of SP's achievements (just like they did in 1998 for SP's hometown stop on their charity tour). A follow-up concert was also organized, which took place on July 5th, 2002 at Metro.
So, are these bands/artists cover bands?
With very few exceptions, the vast majority of the bands/artists are NOT cover bands. The aim of the Act IV organizers was to not only to pay tribute to SP, but to promote new music. To this end, they encouraged artists to perform their own original songs, in addition to cover songs. This is why this Myspace page and the Act IV site don't just have SP covers on them
The Act IV concerts are on the same kind of wavelength as the First Waltz or Bridge School Benefit shows. Many different bands coming together for a good cause to play cover songs and/or original music.

Currently some of the music featured on this page are original songs from bands involved with Act IV, and the rest of the tracks are Smashing Pumpkins cover by these artists and bands. Again, these are not 'tribute bands', but original artists who were inspired by the Pumpkins and we encourage you to check out their original songs. Act IV is not officially affiliated with The Smashing Pumpkins, their former or current members. Hello Act IV, what up?? HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I got to say, as a Smashing Pumpkins fan, they were cool around the 1990s. I felt Billy Corgan got arrogant with the new lineup, which later resulted in the band splitting in and out. I miss the old lineup.
