Thanks so much for being a friend and I hope that you enjoyed "A Soldiers Song". Maybe it will help people to think about what happens to our men and women when the return home from a war.
Hello again Anita, I have tears in my eyes when I visit your site. Not tears of sorrow but of friendship, It is very gratifying to know that there is a movement about; in whatever form , to help our boys and each other battle with this tragic circumstance that we have found ourselves in. if only we had known, if only our government wasn't lying to us constantly. but we will make the best of it. My Grandma from Norway would have said, "We ainta gonna give now are we"? We won't and I know you won't either.
I pray that our boys will find peace this night and that we will find ourselves in spirit.
I wore one of those big silver POW/MIA bracelets from 1970 until 1976 for a S/Sgt. John Jakovac who was reported missing after his second tour of duty with only 36 days to go. His mother wrote that he enlisted at the age of 17, with her consent, in Oct. 1964.
I wore it like a badge of honor. Most people would ask me "hey, why are you wearing that?" or "what does it mean?" or "how do I get one?" To John's mother, it meant that there were other people who cared about her son because she never felt like the government cared.
When I lost the bracelet off the UP coast, it didn't dawn on me until a few years later when I came across his Mom's letters that John Jakovac grew up by the lake where I lost the bracelet.
I want Anita, Darrell Anderson's mom, to know that I'm wearing a big silver bracelet to honor Darrell. This bracelet doesn't have his name on it. It's purely decorative, but everytime I where it, somebody always wants to know where I got it. So from now on, when people ask me about it, I will tell them it is to honor a young man from Lexington Kentucky who served his country and served it well. He he also had the foresight to see that after his second tour, it wasn't his country for which he was fighting. Neither was it honor, democracy, nor freedom. So he had the courage to put down his gun and say, "no more. "
Anita, I can't think of who said this, but it goes like life can only be understood backward; but it must be lived forward ... thank you for taking that first step forward for our families, friends and our future ... Love to you, Darrell, and Family ... I put a little something in the mail for Darrell ... I'll distribute your request through e-mail ...
Powerful words by Resist and great Radioblog. Fantastic work you are doing Anita. I feel a little more like celebrating 4th of July this year, knowing that there are folks like you and St. Ronn Cantu taking bold stands explefying what it means to live in a so called democratic country.
Yea! Super job. That was me on that call you know? I'm definitely going to follow-up on what we talked about. I'm so proud of you for doing this show. You're so courageous! Gonna figure out later if I can put a link to your show from my site to help you promote it. Alright, time for work. Have a good weekend.
If you, or anyone you know, are going to be in Kent, Ohio on May 4, I am inviting you to come to the May 4 commemoration ceremonies. May 4, 1970 is the day when the National Guard Soldiers killed 4 college students at Kent State University and injured several others. Every year, lead by the injured students, Kent State University remembers the events of May 4, 1970.
This year there will be the exhibit "Eyes Wide Open" which is a display of boots for every Ohio soldier who has lost their life in Iraq. It will be up from 10am to 5pm.
If you're interested in getting more information you can come to my myspace or go to the May 4 Task Force myspace at http://www. myspace. com/m4tf Yvette
Stay strong Anita; just watched the latest video from University protest, takes great strength of character to show up to a small protest than be able to be lost in the massive protests as in S.F. Your hard work on this site makes a difference!
