Seit mittlerweile 5 Jahren stehen im Herzen des Ruhrpotts 5 Jungs, die zwischendurch mal 4 waren. Die schon lange eine große Leinwand verdient haben. 5 Jahre, in denen nur ein Jahr nach Ihrem frischen Debüt „Sleeping On A Dark Star“ mit der 7-Track-EP „Let’s Rock“ nachgelegt wurde, nur um 2003 mit „The Great Seven“ zum Rundumschlag auszuholen: Shows mit den Brainless Wankers oder den Donots, den Nerv der sonst so gelangweilten Genre-Anhänger getroffen. Da kam auch VISIONS nicht vorbei: „Versierter Emo-Pop-Punk mit akzentuierten Schreiattacken. Schön, druckvoll und mitten aus dem Ruhrpott.“ Und ja: Endlich mal jemand, der keine Vergleiche scheuen muss, mit Melodien, Hooklines und einem Keyboard an Bord, dass die große Pop-Geste nicht scheut. Sich zurückhalten können ja die anderen. Das Zeug und die Songs dazu haben die Action Film Survivors sowieso. Hier treten die Get Up Kids bierreckend gegen Taking Back Sunday unglücklich verliebt an, um am Ende Arm in Arm feiern zu gehen. Euphorie und Melancholie schließen sich also längst nicht aus - der Schlüssel dazu liegt irgendwo in Duisburg.
Wie sangen einst Waterdown? “Round Two and Knock Out!” Da hocken die Survivors schon längst wieder in der Ecke um den Nächsten umzublasen. Eine bald erscheinende EP bei Audiosafari und „Nordberg’s Revenge“ auf dem vierten Teil des „Pro-Punkrock“-Samplers könnten da nur der Anfang sein. Einmal richtig aufs Maul, dafür drei Mal ausgeteilt. Bereit zu neuen Taten.
“Hastalavista, Baby!” „Yippee-aye-ay Mother f*****!“ „Knock Knock, Mc Fly?!?!“ or it may sound something like that when the usual genre-suspects meet for a party, where the real hardboiled ones, still up after that binge at 6 in the morning, have the skills to become Action Film Survivors.
For five years 5 guys from the heart of the Ruhr area, (originally 4 in the past), had deserved their “big screen break”. Just one year after their fresh debut “Sleeping On A Dark Star” they took it further with a 7-Track-EP “Let’s Rock” Striking out a sweeping blow with 2003’s “The Great Seven,” not to mention gigs along with The Brainless Wankers or even the Donots; they continue hittin the nerve of otherwise bored genre-fans. That meant no way around for the well-established German musicmagazine VISIONS: ”Versed Emo-Pop-Punk with accented scream-attacks. Nice and vibrant, with a lot of pressure and straight out of the Ruhrpott.” And yes: Finally someone who doesn’t have to avoid comparisons. With melodies, hooklines and a keyboard on board that doesn’t avoid the big pop-gesture. No punches pulled, no holds barred, the Action Film Survivors thrash out the talent and songs regardless. In the left corner: The Get Up Kids, raising a few beers. In the right corner: Taking Back Sunday, accidentally in love. In the end of the day: Both embracing and ready to party. Euphoria and melancholy don’t exclude each other. The missing link exists somewhere in Duisburg.
