Root Films

It’s rare for a brand new film company to arrive on the international stage with celebrity endorsement and a huge audience keenly awaiting its first release.

But that’s Root Films for you. Combining Martin Root’s experience as the Creative Director of Root, an innovative multi-disciplinary design studio, and Jonny Owen’s talents as an actor, writer and producer, Root Films now has its first feature under way.

A BIT OF TOM JONES? is a new film starring Jonny Owen and Roger Evans of SVENGALI. Here's a synopsis of the film:

In a late night bar, Henry is approached by a mysterious woman who offers to sell him the severed "manhood" of Wales' greatest vocal entertainer… Believing he can make a fortune selling the infamous appendage on to obsessive fans, Henry stumps up the cash.

To help find the right buyer, Henry teams up with his slightly dodgy best friend Teddy and together the two head off on an insane journey that leads them deep into the secret world of celebrity body part trading. Along the way, they have a fight with a Gorilla, are bubbled bathed by a randy pensioner, kidnapped by adult babies, break into a police station, take a day trip to Belgium to meet the World's biggest dealer of celebrity off-cuts and even get caught up in the slowest Police chase in movie history... ...and all for a bit of Tom Jones?

A Film For Anyone Who's Ever Made a Dick of Themselves!

From the ITV website:

GOOD ARROWS is a new one-off 90 minute drama written and directed by Irvine Welsh for ITV4.

The legendary Scottish author and screenwriter has teamed up with Dean Cavanagh to pen a brutal satire on the cult of minor celebrity, set in the world of professional darts.

Andy “The Arrows” Samson (Jonny Owen) was once the toast of the darts world, the boy from South Wales who’d played everywhere from working men’s clubs to Las Vegas. But recently he’s lost his touch. Will his form ever recover?

ONE OF THE CROWD is a short film by the Skillset Screen Academy Wales (SSAW) post graduation facility. It stars Jonny Owen and Stacey Daly. Script to (small) screen in just 3 weeks.

As graphic as anything in the "Final Destination" series (consider yourself warned) Jonny Owen is featured in the viral UK YouTube video PSA TEXTING AND DRIVING, U.K., AUGUST 2009, (HQ) MASTER ORIGINAL VIDEO. Produced and directed by Peter Watkins-Hughes, who produced the film "A Bit of Tom Jones?" starring Jonny Owen, the clip has been watched over 3 million times.

From the YouTube description:

"The four-minute sequence involves British student actors and crews -- and is part of a larger 30-minute drama (titled COW) produced and directed by Peter Watkins-Hughes, an award winning former BBC producer who is also a lecturer for the Documentary Film & Television department at the Newport School of Art, Media and Design in Wales. This drama was made for -- and with -- the Gwent Police Department, located approximately 150 miles west of London."
