I don't particularly enjoy him (he's really difficult to listen to, take seriously, or ignore) but he's ALWAYS there and he's really nice and he let's me sing Summertime (the way I like to sing it... because he follows really well) and he has completely woven his way into SO many memories because Lafitte's is the only cool bar on Bourbon Street... and it's like the oldest bar in the country and Jean Laffite used to hang out there... what's that guy's name? Oh yeah, it's Johnny.
Courage, strength, fortitude. Power not arrested in the act of judgement, but passing on to further action, sometimes obstinacy.
This is a card of courage and energy. It represents both the Lion's hot, roaring energy, and the Maiden's steadfast will. The innocent Maiden is unafraid, undaunted, and indomitable. In some cards she opens the lion's mouth, in others she shuts it. Either way, she proves that inner strength is more powerful than raw physical strength. That forces can be controlled and used to score a victory is very close to the message of the Chariot, which might be why, in some decks, it is Justice that is card 8 instead of Strength. With strength you can control not only the situation, but yourself. It is a card about anger and impulse management, about creative answers, leadership and maintaining one's personal honor. It can also stand for a steadfast friend.
Born and raised in New Orleans. Lived in Oxford, MS and Manhattan. I went back to New Orleans (twice) to spend time with friends, create awesome theatre (RED LIGHT DISTRICT VARIETY SHOW), do theatre jobs, work... work... work... fight the good fight... became terribly saddened and fed up with of the lack of leadership. THEN... I met THE one... at an airport... (they always say "you just know" well...). So, I followed my heart to San Francisco (Berkeley.. well.. Kensington to be exact). Moved from a view of the River to a view of the Ocean. BUT I'll be in my NOLA home so often you won't even know I left. Yesterday an outside observer asked me a series of "Parlor Trick" questions (his terminology, not mine) and then assessed that he had me all figured out. He described me as being a natural gambler, a style fanatic and that I am unafraid of my desires. He later stated that he figured my "Achilles Heel" is theatre and that I am less concerned with notoriety than being an integral part of a meaningful production. Not a bad parlor trick. He failed to mention, however, that I love The RAWK, Le Jazz, the Musica Latino, the obscure, the naturally peculiar, that which is original, that which is physically contorted and seemingly physically impossible. MMM...travel! Pairs in December/January (check). South Carolina in April (check). Move to Cali in April (check). NYC in June? Seattle in July? Boston in August? THEN OCTOBER (grin). Turks and Caicos in December!!! BUT I will be back in NOLA every (yes EVERY month)!!
You're Lili St. Cyr!
Who I'd like to meet: My younger self. My older self.
That casting director who thinks I'm "All That" and Willum DaFoe... again. AND.. Ira Glass, David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell (I am a HUGE "This American Life" fan). I would like to actually MEET Nick Spitzer (host of "American Routes"). I've spoken with him on the phone... booked him for the documentary I've been co-producing with dinomonster films(see trailer below)... but have yet to shake his hand. I'm pretty confident our paths will cross, though... since we travel in similar circles and live in the same town... which is ultimately a small town.
hello my favorite goddess of them all -- i can't wait to catch up with you! i just have one question: why do you need my voice when you've got YOURS?!?!? as confounded as i am by this, i will OF COURSE lend you my voice. just tell me where it needs to be and when, and i'll make sure to get it there. early.
i will try to catch you by tele sometime tomorrow. xoxo
But you get sick of it pretty fast, so after 6 weeks i buzzed it off, and only the top of my head is green now, and tomorrow i'm dying it brown. tra la la!
oh i forgot one statement.... if you have to get outta here, get outta here. You'll be missed but I rather miss you than see you here wanting to be somewhere else.
Let's break down the name "Lessla"...it's kinda like the name Smalls or Slim. Those two are nicknames for someone who demands the opposing descriptive term. Your nickname (I can't hold it as my own creative generosity) "Lessla" is similar to "Smalls" or "Slim" I may call you Lessla but you sure give More to Louisiana than you realize. You're welcome for the compliment....I'm still waiting to meet this Paul guy:)
jesus you guys are in love.. you sound so glorious and happy..you look beautiful too. back in cape cod...tis a phenomenal geographical space and it's a relief to back with my girl.
