Actor Slash Model (the band) is the Chicago based acoustic duet of Simon Strikeback and Madsen Minax, together creating a clean and succinct blend of skillful musicianship, captivating rythms, alluring harmonies, witty lyrics and overall charming entertainment.
Their stage performance alone has been said to be "completely entrancing," as their connective energy and interactions are humourous, yet concise and natural - the music is clean, tight and penatrative, yet Actor Slash Model is raw, real and fun. The performers are able to blend their seemless music into a comedic act of sorts, as their songs range in content from "nontraditional" love affairs, to fake moustaches, to homoerotic cowboys, to psuedo metal hair ballads and back again.
The two draw from bluegrass and folk roots, yet also incorporate aspects of non traditional independant music, and therefore like to dub their genre "Indie-Grass." Though Actor Slash Model utilizes a playful means, often tongue in cheek, their lyrics convey the depth of political ideas, emotion and belief in every line.
Aside from being musicians and performers, Actor Slash Model (madsen minax and simon strikeback) is/are also currently working a documentary film project exploring notions of trans and gender variant identities in relation to musicianship and performance. They have to this point conducted over 20 interviews and compiled upwards of 75 hours of footage, filming performers across the US. Their film is scheduled for completion in 2009. All proceeds from the album "Cheap Date" benefit the aS/M film project. Please check out the website.
Thanks for showing up in Pittsburgh. It was like Ida for the steel city. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening, come back soon, and hopefully I'll see you sooner
1) why are you four all so hot? (plus dave end = you five) 2) how come you don't wear pink eye make-up daily/constantly/when you hang out with me? 3) when are you coming home?!?!?
Cole from Trans Junk Project here. I don't actually live in New York. I live in North Carolina. I believe A.J. (Modern Day Pinocchio) contacted you about coming down here. I'm down for that! Do I count as a musician because I sing showtunes?
I think you just sent me a sign. Ok, right, so I've been looking for songs to do in my voice lessons and for auditions and things, and I came across a youtube of Gavin Creel doing "Rainbow Connection," and it was like the most awesome thing ever. And then so, the next day, there's your video. I haven't heard that song in a couple of decades or something, and then I hear it twice in the same week?
so yeah, did i mention how good it felt to have you two in seattle? yall fit well in the PNW. youll have to come again. now, if only you could slip in a show during june while im in chicago... ;)

"Urban folk is the operative phrase when it comes to describing the music of LVNMUZIQ. Liz Snavely (a.k.a. LVNMUZIQ) has a distinct vocal sound that can warm up the chilliest spring morning and her songs have a way of working their way under your skin and making themselves a part of your being. “River,” on which she is joined by violinist, Steph DeJong, has a comforting flow, and the appearance of a harmonica on “Disappear” is a welcome addition. Snavely makes the void worth contemplating on “Contemplating the Void” and makes “Growing Pains” a painless experience. ” Gregg Shapiro – Chicago Free Press
