Sounds Like
In my compositions, I try to preserve a connection to the real world, as well as explore lyrical phrasing while using sounds that are not considered lyrical. I am particularly interested in semiotic approaches to electroacoustic composition, revolving around the relationship between sound materials, processing and syntax, in negotiation with the listener. Other interests include performativity in EA music, indeterminacy and installation art.
Adam Basanta is completing a BFA in music composition at SFU, studying electroacoustic composition with Barry Truax and acoustic composition with David MacIntyre. In his compositions, Adam tries to preserve a connection the real world phenomena while engaging with medium-specific techniques. He is particularly interested in semiotic approaches to electroacoustic composition, compositional use of sound phenomenology, as well as found sound environments.
He has collaborated with choreographers Henry Daniel, Troika Ranch (NY/Berlin), and Kinesis Dance (Vancouver). His compositions have been performed at concerts, conferences and festivals throughout North America and the United Kingdom, and have been recipients of national awards.
Below is an unedited, improvised, interactive set, performed live using a Wii and custom patches in Max/MSP. Visuals were created using streaming audio data to Isadora.
Thank you Adam for your kind comments! I wish I were at icmc too, but travel is very expensive... Your pieces on myspace sound fantastic; I hope to be able to listen to them properly diffused one day.
The “Encuentro de Arte Sonoro Tsonami” calls for sound artists, composers, performers, instrumentists and ensembles, to submit Works to be performed at the Encuentro de Arte Sonoro Tsonami 2009 that will take place October 20th-25th 2009, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The “Encuentro de Arte Sonoro TSONAMI” its a showcase and exchange platform for the work of national and international artists that gather around sound in its many manifestations; Music, Performance, Multimedia, Sound Installations, and other manifestations that don..t have a place in mainstream or traditional communications media, and that does not pursue commercial or lucrative ends.
