He was a weathered old man who knew the Ural Sea like the back of his hand or the top of his foot, depending on which he was staring at through the bottom of a bottle of Jack Daniels. Perhaps you will meet him one day, and he'll tell you about the time he tore out the larynx of the last icthyosaur, a creature thought long to be extinct save for this lone wanderer of the ages, until my pa put him down for giving him the hairy eye. This was before the Environmental Protection Agency and similar government agencies created to make life difficult ever existed, as they would have surely imprisoned the man for destroying a beast that once swam with the dinosaurs.
