    Adam Nicke's Interests
Generalall things retro, comedy, sixties garage, psychedelia, sunshine, the summer, vintage clothes (I used to make clothes for a living and am still into fashion in a big way. I love the bohemian look), vintage guitars, my dog, animals, animal welfare, literature, books, art (fin de siècle and art nouveau best of all)

Music
Sixties garage, psychedelic music and freakbeat. Some music from the 30's and 40s, 50's rockabilly, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Elvis, Link Wray, early motown and stax, blues, Rolling Stones, Beatles, The Yardbirds, The Who, The Kinks, The Small Faces, Creation, Tomorrow, Brian Auger and The Trinity, The Doors, Early Pink Floyd, The Pretty Things, The Chocolate Watch Band, The Seeds, The Sonics, The Standells, Love, The Electric Prunes, The MC5, The Stooges, The Creeps, The Stomachmouths, The Nomads, The Lime Spiders, The Psychotic Turnbuckles, The Chesterfield Kings, The Playn Jayn, The Tell-Tale Hearts, The Lyres, the Nuggets compilation albums, the Pebbles compilation album, some 70's punk, Radio Birdman, The New Christs, Vibravoid, Liquid Visions, The Royal Beat Conspiracy, Baby Woodrose, Crazyhead, Ride, Inspiral Carpets, The Telescopes, Lords of Altamont. I do have my mellow moments, too - Vashti Bunyan, Linda Perhacs, Margo Guryan, Lamp of the Universe. I love a bit of fuzzed up garage with wailing harmonica and farfisa. I also love a bit of tripped out psych with hammond or sitars. I've probably forgotten a lot of people but all you need to do is look at the people I've made a friend and you'll see the sort of stuff I like. There would be more but a lot of bands clearly don't consider a fan of 20+ years standing good enough to be a friend!
MoviesWithnail and I, It's a Wonderful Life, Life of Brian, Dumb and Dumber, Hard Days Night, The Rebel (Tony Hancock), An American Werewolf in London, The Wicker Man, The Italian Job (the original one, of course!), loads of others. Most comedies or victorian gothic horror will probably get me watching, too. Tim Burton's films are usually pretty good. I love a bit of kitsch and B-movies, some of the better Carry On films, Hammer horrors, Ealing comedies, Laurel and Hardy.
TelevisionComedy - Tony Hancock, Peter Cooke, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, The Office, Fry and Laurie, Father Ted, Bottom, Shooting Stars, Laurel and Hardy, Spike Milligan, Kenneth Williams, Peter Sellers. I like some new comedy, too - Peep Show, Brass Eye, etc.

I love the paranormal and mysteries. A good documentary or drama on anything involving that will always get me watching.
BooksParanormal, poetry (Romanticism and Symbolism), comedy, biographies, weird history, true crime (I'm a bit of a Ripperologist), Victoriana. I've recently been reading about the literary genre steampunk but haven't read any yet. Anyone got any suggestions of where to start?
HeroesBrigitte Bardot, John Lennon, Arthur Rimbaud, Jim Morrison

About me:

Hello and Welcome!

Hello, my name is Adam Nicke. I live in Chepstow in South Wales. It's not the most interesting of places and that's one of the reasons I'm on here - to broaden my horizons. I consider myself a pretty friendly guy and will chat to anyone about anything. The rest of this page should give you a good indication of my favourite topics but I'm easy and open to chat about most things.

Sorry, but I only add sixties garage/psychedelic bands (or modern bands influenced by that style of music). If you'd care to look at the other site I have - The Groovy Times - that should give you a fair idea of the sort of music I like. It's a big sixties fansite and is free or all advertising, banners, spam, etc. I'm just a fan with nothing to sell. Isn't that a refreshing change?! It's a site dedicated to that brief period in the sixties when London was swinging, when Carnaby Street wasn't like a tacky seaside resort, and when being a hippie didn't mean you necessarily had to reek of patchouli oil and sit around in a muddy field all day! You want garage bands? You want freakbreat? You want proto-psychedelia? Then give it a whirl! There are about 150 vintage concert posters - like the one on the left - on the site, too!

A few of my favourite comedians will be featured on this page from time to time. I love the pompous losers comedians like Tony Hancock and Rik Mayall used to play. You might see some Kenneth Williams, Peter Cook or even Monty Python on here if you're lucky. After all, it's my site and I can add whatever I want!

Literature is also a big love of my life and something that makes my life worth living. I used to be heavily into fin de siècle Decadent literature in the early 1990's. In fact, I was lucky enough to have a small collection of short stories by the name of Grim Fairy Tales published in 1995 that aspired to be written in that vein. It was all a bit gothic and anguished (more hand-wringing, in fact, than even a flange of Emos could stomach!)

I love vintage american clothes (although just recently japanese denim has run that a close second!) I used to make clothes in my youth but now prefer quality vintage.

I'm very interested in paranormal phenomena and most things that go bump in the night. Anyone want to talk about that?

If anything on the site genuinely appeals then drop me a line. I have a questionnaire further down the page if you want to know a little more about me.

I change the film clips I show on here every few days in case you're wondering why I have such a small collection. Hold on to your hats for some 1980's/1990's UK indie bands and their take on sixties garage and psychedelia:

The Telescops - Celeste

The Telescopes - Everso

Crazyhead - Have Love Will Travel

Ride - How Does It Feel?

Inspiral Carpets - This Is How It Feels

And now for some comedy. Firstly, my comedy genius of the moment: Peter Sellers

Monty Python - 'Sit on My Face'

Who I'd like to meet:
John Lennon and Jim Morrison would have to be pretty high. I like Johnny Depp films so would like to meet him, too. Now had this been 1967 the list would have had to have included Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin, Michelle Phillips, Sharon Tate, Penelope Tree, Francois Hardy! I bet they'd have loved to have met a loser like me, too!! I have a ton of galleries of these women on my main site. Here's a capture of the specific page:

If you're interested in seeing more bohemian babes then you can check out my webring as that has a number of sites dedicated to groovy sixties women. Why not have a look? Click on the image of the lovely Penelope Tree to be taken there

Hi Adam,

Don't know if you've read it, but I was looking at the Steptoe and Son Fan Site yesterday (which is run by the Corbett family) and noticed on their Blog that they are correcting a number of untruths reported in The Curse of Steptoe and the media recently. It looks like The Curse of Steptoe was in a large part untrue. They seem quite angry about it all. It's an interesting read!

Take care,

Sarah

Hi Adam,

You're right, this is a bit spooky! This is really why I joined MySpace, you never seem to bump into people in daily life who are into the same things.

Did you see 'Hancock and Joan' and 'The Curse of Steptoe' on TV recently?

Have a good day.

Thanks for the add. If you get the show over in Merry Olde, I should be getting a royalty check, right? I got 14 cents from France, so if I'm lucky, I should be doubling my income.

Hey now, you look like my kind of friend!! And your choice of movies, is ace.. including my favorite of all time. "I don't advise a haircut, man. All hairdressers are in the employment of the government. Hairs are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos, and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bald-headed men are uptight."

Enjoy :o)
