Add Verb's Newest Play: A Major Medical Breakthrough
YOU are invited to a preview performance of A Major Medical Breakthrough!
Come to a free public preview performance of Add Verb's newest play--
Written by Cathy Plourde, A Major Medical Breakthrough is a performance program that examines the critical role the health care sector plays in addressing intimate partner violence and sexual assault.
Featuring actors, Karen Ball Cabot, Erik Moody and multimedia designed by Kris Hall, A Major Medical Breakthrough is an entertaining and informed reflection of what needs to be done to mitigate interpersonal violence in our society. When: September 15th and 16th at 7pm
Where: Room 306 - Payson Smith Hall, USM Portland Campus, 96 Falmouth Street
Audience Feedback from A Major Medical Breakthrough:
"This was a very effective, powerful way to address a sensitive, incredibly important aspect of caring well for patients."
"Excellent presentation - pointed out prejudices, deep-seated beliefs which do more harm to patients suffering from abuse than good. Raised awareness about how to effectively, compassionately care for these patients."

ABOUT OUR TOURING PRODUCTIONS:
THE THIN LINE:
a one-woman play addressing eating disorders presented to middle school, high
school, and college audiences, as well as for national conferences, at treatments
centers, grand rounds, trainings, and in communities wanting to raise awareness
about eating disorders. The play features four different characters—a girl who
is struggling with eating disorders, her internal negative voice, her mother,
and her best friend—who together present the complexities of eating disorders,
provide many of the facts, offer audiences hope for all those involved while
emphasizing the seriousness of this potentially fatal mental illness. While
self-contained as a performance piece, the play’s intention is to provide a
community to interact with local resources who will be available to assist with
more information and potential treatment when the play has gone away.
YOU THE MAN:
a one-man play addressing unhealthy relationships, dating violence and sexual
assault. It’s unusual in that it specifically takes a male perspective of empathy,
supporting that there are no innocent bystanders. The play weaves together six
male characters that are affected by violence against women: Stan The Man, an
advice-giving merchant of hip-hop cool; The Virgin Larry, an unfortunately nicked-named
athlete who is boxed in by the macho code; and Officer Friendly, whose charm
and humor counterpoint and make more poignant the hard realities of sexual assault.
Mitchell is the central figure in You The Man, who, with Jana’s father Michael
and her teacher Dr. Wing, is increasingly concerned about Jana’s safety. Similar
to THE THIN LINE, this play has performed at high schools, colleges and community
centers, with the intention to provide a community to interact with local resources
who will be available to assist with more information and potential treatment
when the play has gone away.

The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths.
These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep, loving concern.
Beautiful people do not just happen.
