Catapulted from years of abject obscurity in the Irish midlands, Adela Meally is poised to become ‘the new queen of the local indie singer-songwriter scene’ according to Hot Press, with her demo receiving considerable airplay from Dave Fanning, John Creedon and The Last Broadcast.
Adela is now joined by her band The Meanits, giving the music a kind of blue-grass/punk feel. Making their big debut as a band at the Electric Picnic 09...expect to see a lot more Meanit gigs.
Adela’s first single, the refreshingly risque ‘Andy’, is due for release really soon, while the band put the finishing touches to the eagerly awaited debut album.
So far Adela has played support to John Spillane, Eleanor McEvoy, Liam O Maoinlai, Don Mescall, Gavin Glass, Juliet Turner Damien Dempsey, Mick Flannery and Arthur Ebeling.
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace... Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.
yep my version is a bit meloncholy and self loathing haha but isnt that the life of an artist!! the original is by far the best but i would like to hear you use the `my life is shit` line when i get a chance to catch yee live ;p
