Quite a mixture actually. I love clever lyrics from Jake Thackeray and Tom Lehrer through to Noel Coward and Flanders and Swann. I've recently discovered Dory Previn, so I can't call her an influence, but I do find some resonance with her writing in mine. Then there's Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, Tracy Chapman, Michelle Shocked, Bob Dylan, Mary Chapin-Carpenter and so on and so on....
My dad showed me my first three chords on the guitar when I was eight and I was off: the songs started to come during my troubled teenage years but I never sang them to anyone: they were too personal. They're still personal but I finally decided I wanted to sing them anyway and maybe some of them could even help other folks who might recognise themselves in parts of my journey. So a few years ago I ventured out onto the Open Mic circuit to see what would happen, and it's certainly been interesting and so now I'm still showing up just to see what happens next..

FACEBOOK Urban Monroes Thanks a lot. Hope to see ya there!
This lady writes poignantly, plays beautifully and sings divinely. She is an exceptional and undiscovered talent. I may even get to play with her and I will be the fortunate one. I am considered quite talented on both sides of the 'pond' and this lady has got me impressed. (Can I have my cheque by return please Adelia? lol)
Hi Adelia Sorry not to be with you at the Picture House - I've been under the weather recently. I hope Dave turned up and gave my apologies but I know he was really busy so may not have been able to make it either. Anyway hope you went down a storm and I'll try and catch you somewhere else. Cheers Fodo
I missed you at Tradewinds- (I think I saw the back of your head at one point). Yes, a little claustrophobic but Si is going to sort it next time. The tables will be removed and there won't be the noisy party of canoeists in the other bar. Also there were an unfeasible amount of people wishing to perform, not sure why they all descended on the night, it must have been the perfect storm. Si's definitely on the ball with it though- I think we needed to have this one as an experimental test case
Anyway- see you next time, hope you got to play- I had to shuffle off of course even before the break =)
