Help our furry friends out by voting!
Life can sometimes be dogged for those of us
who walk on two legs. But for our four-legged furry friends, both canine and
feline, life can be very hard when they are without homes or families. It's even
tougher for those who have been neglected, abused or abandoned.
To look at our available pets, go to our pics page. I try to keep them up to date so that none will be there if they've been adopted, but please call the shelter at 210-655-1481 to doublecheck before coming out to see a specific dog. Also check out our website at www.adltexas.org!
In 1934, a group of San Antonians decided to help. They founded the Animal Defense League of Texas, making a 'no-kill' shelter. They defined the mission as enhancing the quality of life for abandoned and abused dogs and cats by providing medical care needed, including spaying and neutering. Food, affection and the safety of a shelter untill a loving adoptive homes could be found would also be provided. No animal would ever be euthanized if he or she could be treated and returned to health. Nearly 75 years later, this mission and commitment to a no-kill policy is still true for the Animal Defense League.
The work of the Animal Defense League (ADL) is supported through adoption fees, memberships, donations, contributions, grants, bequests from individuals and special events. A volunteer board provides guidance with input from an advisory board. ADL offers programs and services that strengthen the bond between animals and people. Through grassroots advocacy, education, legal intervention and rescue, the Animal Defense League is the leading voice in South Texas for dogs and cats in crisis. While every organization that works to care for innocent animals is to be commended, the Animal Defense League is unique in many ways.
Abused dogs and cats taken in by ADL are medically treated. No animal is ever euthanized if he or she can be brought back to health- that's ADL's commitment as a true no-kill shelter.

We are always looking for potential adopters and our animals are always hoping to go home with a family that will love and care for them unconditionally. Donation's are always needed and always used. We appreciate our Volunteer's and we are always looking for more wonderful people to help us keep up!....

Ghosts and shadow people

We begin our door to door Halloween flight.
Not knowing our immediate blight
we bravely approach your door and RING……
TRICK OR TREAT!! We say with a strong and mighty grin.
Candy and little toys we hope to gain
from this daring plan imagined in these little brains.
BOOOOO!! We are greeted as a scary hand
extends to our goodie sacks.
The lights go black, we stagger back!!
Screams explode, others jump!!
Dogs howl and unfriendly things give us a bump.
It’s Halloween! The voice screams as
we dump out our goodie sacks and run.
