Born November 8, 1974 in Hamilton, Ontario, pianist/composer Adrean Farrugia began piano studies at age 12. After extensive classical studies an interest in composition and improvisation led to jazz studies after highschool at age 18. Adrean studied at Mohawk College w/ Mark Eisenman, Mike Malone, Dave McMurdo, Greg Bush and Lorne Lofsky. Adrean then pursued further studies at the University of Toronto w/ Gary Williamson, Brian Dickinson, Kevin Turcotte and Alex Dean as well as at the Banff Centre for the Arts w/ Don Thompson, Kenny Wheeler, Joe and Pat Labarbera, and Hugh Fraser.
Adrean now resides in Toronto, Ontario where he is busy as both a performer and educator. He has performed and/or recorded with artists including Bob Brookmeyer, Chris Potter, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Brad Goode, Lorne Lofsky, Don Thompson, Terry Clarke, Phil Dwyer, Reg Shwager, Mike Murley, Barry Romberg, Neil Swainson, Kirk MacDonald and Pat Labarbera.
Adrean has performed on cross Canada tours with Juno Award winner Rich Underhill as well as the Jefferson/Grant Quintet co-led by saxophonist Kelly Jefferson and trombonist Kelsely Grant. Adrean has also performed at Chicago's historic Green Mill with trumpet virtuoso Brad Goode's Quartet as well as concert dates in Paris, France with a trio led by bassist and longtime friend Chris Jennings.
Adrean currently teaches jazz piano and improvisation at Mohawk College of Arts and Technology and York University and leads several bands including Trio Music and a quartet w/ Canadian guitar legend Lorne Lofsky. Interests other than music include dancing wildly around the livingroom in my underwear, watching reruns of Frasier and Southpark, eating, running on the treadmill (not as much as eating), and finally, trying to make a difference in the world...one...person...at...a...time.
That's great to hear about you and Sophia! Congratulations! I've been practicing as much as I can while still working and playing scattered gigs, so it's a bit stressful, but still a lot of fun. June 8, eh? I'll have to make sure I'm not working that day to check you guys out! Cheers!

Hey Adrean,
I heard you on jazz fm the other night. Sounded great man.
Remember me? I played at your sisters wedding. You were going to do a tune with us, but the keyboard was all messed up. Remember that. Anyway, take care and all the best in your career.
