It’s quirky, hilarious and genuinely exhilarating. There is a nod to Lewis Carroll and a wink to Charles Dickens, but no more than that—Adrienne’s words are packed with originality. Alex is a wonderful hero who deserves to return for further adventures. Indeed I suspect there will be a riot if she does not. Great plot, larger than life characters. The future is bright.”— EOIN COLFER , author of the internationally bestselling Artemis Fowl series ________________________________________________ Grounded in a world not too unlike our own, this novel takes place in a universe where pirates rule the high seas, Extremely Ginormus Octopi quote Shakespeare, and art-deco party trains hold deep dark secrets. This is a world in which Alex Morningside, our heroine and also a very nice kid of ten and a half, finds herself on a quest, not only to find the Infamous Wigpowder’s treasure, but her kidnapped year six teacher Mr. Underwood. But she must use her judgment carefully. Can she, for example, trust Lord Poppinjay or Coriander the Conjuror? Will Captain Magnanimous live up to his name or is it a clever misnomer? Will she ever elude the Daughters of the Founding Fathers’ Preservation Society? And what, oh what will she do when she finally comes face to face with Pirate Captain Steele the Inevitable, captain of the most deadly pirate ship this side of the equator (whichever side that may be) – the Ironic Gentleman? ________________________________________________ Photobucket ________________________________________________ TIMOTHY AND THE DRAGON'S GATE _______________________________________________ With a father who can’t control him and a mother who is always out of town, Timothy Freshwater has finally been expelled from the last school in the city. As if that were not enough, events conspire to ensnare him in an ancient quest. When he meets Mr. Shen, a mysterious Chinese gentleman who is a mailroom clerk at his father’s office, Timothy finds himself deeply entrenched in a rescue operation centuries in the making. It turns out that the diminutive, elegant Mr. Shen is a dragon, banished and forced to take human shape for a thousand years until he can resume his true form by scaling the Dragon’s Gate during a festival for the 125th year of the dragon. Until that time, he is sentenced to enslavement by the holder of the golden key. It is, of course, Timothy who finds himself the latest keeper of Mr. Shen. The boy too smart for his own good is reluctant to assume the task, but tackles the challenge, after being stalked by a stealthy ninja and chased by a menacing trio of black taxicabs. When Mr. Shen falls into the wrong hands, Timothy is flailing in treacherous waters, literally. And then a strange-looking black brig with red sails, called, for some reason, the Ironic Gentleman appears on the horizon. Relying on his own ingenuity and an annoying new ally, a girl called Alex, Timothy must face up to his responsibilities and rescue the dragon from a fleet of Chinese pirate junks. Above all, he must have enough faith in himself to take on that fleet’s commander, the Man in the Beige Linen Suit. _______________________________________________ " . . . the tale’s snarky dialogue, sudden twists, authorial asides and daffy characters will keep readers turning the pages." - Kirkus _______________________________________________ "Kress employs a deceptively casual tone, an ease that belies the complexity of her prose style. . . 'Timothy and the Dragon’s Gate' is an old-fashioned tale, being told by a gifted storyteller. . ." - Quill and Quire, starred review _______________________________________________ "An exciting read that's action-packed from cover to cover." - KH, The Magazine _______________________________________________ "Kress has the knack of writing child characters who could be my next-door neighbors . . . Like Alex and the Ironic Gentleman, Timothy and the Dragon’s Gate charmed me into staying up way too late to finish it. No syrup here. Instead, there’s adventure, derring-do, attitude, and danger. All wrapped up in a clever and fascinating take on the reluctant hero, courage, loyalty, and—of course—dragons." - Alice Loweecey, Buddyhollywood.com

About me:
MySpace Layouts

My name is Adrienne Kress, and I am an author and an actress. I've been a theatre student since I was 11, and just recently returned from London England having studied and worked there as an actress for three years. As far as my writing goes, I am an author of children's novels (for the fabulous ages 8 - 12, okay and anyone else who like me really likes children's literature) - think the same category as Peter Pan, or Alice in Wonderland. My first is called Alex and the Ironic Gentleman and is available in bookstores across North America. Foreign rights have also been sold to Germany, Romania, Spain, Italy, France and Greece. In the UK and Canada it is published by Scholastic and by Weinstein Books in the States. The sequel, Tiomthy and the Dragon's Gate, comes out in January 2009. For more info please check out both my website, AdrienneKress.com, and my most sensational blog documenting my road to publication, some writing/publishing advice, as well as all the drama involved with being an actress (oh yeah, you'd better believe there's drama!). “I found killerbyte to be an excellent read. The tension created by the suspense is so heavy as to be almost tangible, the action is both exciting and gruesome, and the mystery is extremely well-executed.” – Excerpt from Bookwenches review.

Killerbyte available now at Mobipocket, Amazon, and now as an iPhone application.
