‘A’- non, ‘dvaita’ – dual, Advaita means experiencing all as "One". To the uninitiated, Advaita is an eclectic fusion band based in New Delhi, India. It is the expression of eight distinct musical sensibilities that dissolve into each other to bring forth a truly unique and ingenious sound.
Indian Classical Traditions are given new dimension, as they are reinvented within a contemporary soundscape in harmony with Rock and Electronica. Their music is deeply inspired by the quest to discover rhythms and textures that resonate around us and within us. The Sarangi, Tabla, Bass, Keyboards, Guitars and Drums blend seamlessly, complimented perfectly by two of the most gifted Hindustani and Western Vocalists. Their brand of contemporary ‘organic’ fusion has been lauded as one of the most original and ground- breaking sounds to ever come out of the Indian underground music scene. They have successfully carved out a niche.. for their New Age Music in the Global context, while staying true to their characteristically Indian roots.
The “Advaita Experience” is defined by the pursuit of that incredible moment during performance when the musician becomes the music and forgets his own identity, resulting in thoroughly electrifying stage performances.
Since their inception in 2004, Advaita has been established as one of the most thrilling, innovative and original acts on the Indian music scene, with the unique reputation of enthralling audiences in any kind of setting – from corporate events and Classical festivals to pub gigs and college shows. Hailed by music lovers and media alike, the band is now a well respected entity on the cultural map of Delhi.
In January 2006, some members of the band played on stage with international superstar Talvin Singh. Later that year, Advaita received a lot of praise and attention as the in house band featured weekly on NDTV’s talk show Face the Music with Vir Sanghvi. In November 2007 they inaugurated the ‘SAARC Bands Festival’, featuring the best bands from all the SAARC countries. Advaita’s diverse repertoire boasts of performances at numerous high profile corporate events for clients like The Taj Group, Vodafone, The Times of India and HCL amongst others. Appreciation from the classical community resulted in their presence at the Gwalior Heritage Festival (where they performed just before Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan on the same stage) and at the Prachisudha Festival organised by famous dancers Raja Radha Reddy.
Advaita was one of only four bands from India selected by famous producer John Leckie (who has worked with the likes of Pink Floyd, George Harrison and Radiohead) to record two songs with him for a compilation released by the British council. As part of this project, called the India Soundpad Project, the band recently toured the UK playing 6 shows in 5 cities, including the famous Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
In March 2009 Advaita launched its first album on EMI records titled Grounded in Space which further catapulted the status of the band. Recorded at the famed Yash Raj Studios, Mumbai, the album spent 4 weeks at number one on the International charts at the Music World stores for all of Delhi, ahead of releases by international superstars like U2.
The coming season will see the band do a nation wide tour to promote the album and the video for the opening track Rasiya will be seen on music channels very soon!

You guys are playing THE most beautiful and interesting music i have heard in the music scene today. It was a pleasure to play with you and even more of a pleasure to get your album and listen to that wonderful piece of magic u have all created. I long to hear more of your stuff and will tell everyone i know of your amazing work. Hearing the Serangi whilst your sound tech fitted the pickup, just playing on its own is the most moving thing i have ever heard. You are all beautiful humble people and have such a gift for channeling the spirit, long may you run my friends.
