Music
Everything! Music is the universal language.
I can listen to rump shaking hip hop or rap (the thought provoking variety)one minute and old school or modern country the very next. Then maybe some Reggaeton, Spanish pop/rock or Salsa/Merengue and on to some lounge, world music, Celtic, folk, or classical and throw in some smooth, sultry R&B... or Pink... I love Pink! 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s... I can appreciate almost all genres. My mood dictates what I will listen to.
I was introduced to Sufirock last year (Thank you Samina!)and from the moment I listened to the first note of 'Nachoon Gi' I've been hooked on a "little" band from New York named Junoon and their wickedly talented guitarist and lead vocalist, peace activist, Pakistani rockstar, humanatarian and salt of the earth human being, Salman Ahmad.
Nachoon Gi means "I want to dance" and I deeply felt its beauty before even knowing the translation or anything about the history and background of Junoon, Salman or Sufi poets.
Eat-Pray-Love, Way of The Peaceful Warrior, The Alchemist, Fast Food Nation, Food Politics, Food Fight, The Tipping Point, Who Moved My Cheese, The Four Agreements, The Road Less Traveled, As A Man Thinketh, The Dance of Anger, The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success, Conversations With God... biographies, anything on philosophy, psychology, history, health, wellness and nutrition....
My personal wellness journey began over 20 years ago. In my early teens, I tried my very first weight loss diet, beginning a 16-year cycle of yo-yo dieting before learning how to maintain my own healthy body weight. In those years, several of my family members - including my sister and father - were diagnosed with diabetes, cancer and high blood pressure and passed away. This had a strong impact on me and at an early age I knew I didn’t want disease and premature death to be my destiny. This intent has been my motivation, resulting in over 20 years of independent and formal studies in diet, nutrition and lifestyle management.
I spent years agonizing over my weight and body image. I personally know, first hand, the pain, frustration and self-deprivation resulting from conventional practices and confusing, contradicting nutrition and weight loss advice. I have experienced the nutrition and diet information maze, food binging cycles, emotional eating, high levels of stress, emotional and physical exhaustion, low-grade depression and adrenal fatigue. Do you find yourself in a similar situation? I WANT YOU TO KNOW THERE IS HOPE.
I am a Certified Health Counselor, a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, in New York City and accredited by Columbia University and the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Thanks pretty lady! I did my part here in Virginia voting for Dr. Paul, but there were too many lemmings following McCain and his stupid "let's stay in Iraq bullcrap." I know this sounds dumb, but it scares me to be 25... gimme some advice....
