AENGUS Ó MAOLÁIN
Irish singer and composer Aengus Ó Maoláin was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1985 and studied at Trinity College Dublin, NUI Maynooth and the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
As a performer Aengus specialises in extended vocal technique, namely high-ornamentation and multiphonic singing. In 2004 he founded the four voice group Bulraga to explore the full repertoire of the world’s vocal music and to present audiences with an exciting exploration of the human voice. The group's performances have been described as ‘breathtaking,’ ‘agonizingly powerful’ and ‘unique.’
From 2003 to 2008 Aengus was an active touring member of world-famous choral group Anúna with whom he recorded as a soloist on 2006’s sublime Sensations and the soundscan world-music number one Celtic Origins CD and DVD. He also plays bass and percussion with ERO and Forms in Dublin and is the lead singer and band-leader of Aran Tal’s Band.
Aengus has performed in thirty countries on four continents and has no intentions of stopping yet.
Aengus’ compositions have won press acclaim from the likes of The Irish Times, the Journal of Music in Ireland, the Washington Post and the Village Voice. His music has been performed in the USA, Canada, Ireland, the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Russia and Japan. His choral music is gaining popularity in the United Kingdom and future performances are planned for South America, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden. A recent highlight was the Arts Council Commissioned "A Song of the New Jerusalem" broadcast nationwide on christmas eve 2008.
Aengus also occasionally performs as Aran Tal.
