Mondays, 8:00-9:00 pm; Instructor: Brie Blakeman HOOP DANCE Hoop dance teaches you how to move from your center while increasing coordination as well as a greater understanding of one’s self and body. It uses aspects of prop manipulation techniques similar to that of circus hoop. It is a graceful, transformative, and meditative way to stay fit while having fun. Brie has hoops you can use during class, but you can buy one for $35. All hoops are custom designed by you and made by Brie. Come into the studio to look at the catalog of colors. Brie is a hoop dancer with Kaivalya Hoop Dancers. She also studies painting, color theory and movement at The Kansas City Art Institute. She strives to fuse the elements of painting, sculpture, costuming, make up and movement into one theatrical performance where she uses the art of hoop dance to tell stories through the expression of movement, body language and form. In addition to Hoop Dance, Breeze does Fire Dance, Circle Art, Yoga Hoop Fusion, Improv, and Living Statue Performance. She believes that the hoop and art overall is a direct representation of our inner selves and can be used to escape the distractions of everyday life and connect with our true selves through a balanced state of inner harmony and isolation. Breeze has also performed with the innovative dance group called Quixotic.
