"All My Dreams", for all those days that end in shame...

On September 11, 2001, along with millions of others I watched the news about the terrorist attacks on TV until late that night.
A couple of days later I wrote this song...

RELICS X: MOMENT OF ETERNITY

The latest track in the Relics suite...

RelicsX-600

© Nasa

JANUARY 15, 1996: One peek into a small part of the sky, one giant leap back in time. The Hubble telescope has provided mankind's deepest, most detailed visible view of the universe. Representing a narrow "keyhole" view stretching to the visible horizon of the universe, the Hubble Deep Field image covers a speck of the sky only about the width of a dime 75 feet away. Though the field is a very small sample of the heavens, it is considered representative of the typical distribution of galaxies in space, because the universe, statistically, looks largely the same in all directions. Gazing into this small field, Hubble uncovered a bewildering assortment of at least 1,500 galaxies at various stages of evolution...
(Read the complete article about the Hubble Deep Field here ).

Take a moment of peace and contemplation and dream about infinity and eternity while listening to the music...
Every dot, every smudge you see on this picture is a galaxy. Each contains thousands and thousands of stars, of which many have planets around them. And then, consider that this picture is only a tiny part of the sky where there seems nothing to be when you look up...
This is how Hubble makes us humans feel humble... in this view of a moment of eternity...

Watch the inspiring video “Most important image ever taken” in the favourites on my youtube page .

For the people who are interested in the orchestration:
Like in most of my music, a lot of the instruments are from the Vienna Symphonic Library : solo violin, appassionata strings, harp, flute, oboe
The ambient sounds in the beginning are created with Kore 2 from Native Instruments.
The sopranos and tenor are from Bela D Media.

Songs of Love and Loss

For some time I have been working on a song cycle called "Songs of Love and Loss". Since march this year I began recording the vocals with Ann Van Canegem, a vocalist with lots of experience in jazz and blues. This unexpected combination of my more classical background and her bluesy voice brings a special flavour to our music.
We are steadily recording and remixing all the songs and hope we will be able to release the album in 2008.

Every song has a dedicated page on my website, where you can listen to it along with the lyrics and read some song notes.

RELICS

Relics

“wandering in your mind
you might uncover the dust
of long forgotten memories
and relive days gone by
hear your laughter
as a little boy or girl
with sparkling dreams
of a future bright and promising
maybe you will catch a glimpse
of a loved one
who crossed the edge of forever
and read a book of love
once written in your heart
or perhaps, recover
that sweet moment of surrender
finding peace
listening to voices of hope
amid the relics
in your mind”

Relics is a journey into the mind a collection of instrumental pieces, with variations on a recurring theme “Relics II” in between.

DREAMS ARE BURIED HERE

Dreams are buried here - Part I: Only the wind...

This video was made with pictures that I took in summer 2008 at Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and the WWII Memorial in Washington DC.

"Dreams are buried here..." is a collaboration with 2 dear friends from MI7 (and also on myspace - see my top friends): Artie Q and Mindmovie . You can listen to the complete piece along with the lyrics and read about the collaboration and history of the piece on my website.

poppy

The poppy pictures for the cover image were taken by my 15 year old son Corneel.
The poppy is used as a remembrance symbol for the fallen soldiers of World War I.
"In Flanders Fields" is one of the most famous poems written during the First World War, and has been called "the most popular poem" produced during that period. It is written in the form of a French rondeau. Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae wrote it on May 3, 1915, after he witnessed the death of his friend, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, the day before. The poem was first published on December 8, that year in Punch magazine.
You can read more about it on Wikipedia.

Yes, its very strange that MI7 is just gone. I liked that place, that’s where I first met you, Robin and all other great friends. It was a kind atmosphere there, focused on music. Too bad it is gone. And if it ever comes back, I think it will have a really hard time now when so many uses MySpace as their main pages.

I hope all is well with you and yours! Have a great weekend!

Hi Jef,

It's nice that you've learned som words in swedish. I would like to learn other languages than swedish and english. I haven't had any time for it yet though. Your collaborations with other artists around the world regarding On The Wind is exiting and interresting. I don't think I've seen such a collaboration idea before. Keep up the good work my friend. Thank you for following our project.

Best wishes,

Hi Jef,

Thank you for the nice comment. I'm glad you understand some swedish, i didn't know you did :) At the moment we're only using swedish. But maybe we'll use english also (or only) later on, we haven't decided yet. Today we try to reach the people in Sweden first and anyone that understands swedish. Our first album is planned to be singed in swedish. We would really like to reach out to the whole world though with what is on our hearts. The first album is about Mans rights and obligations to each other and the worth of every human. This is a very important subject to reach out with. We've experienced, seen and heard so much of the hard and sad things people do to each other and we want to reach out to people about how humans should treat and think about each other instead. Love is so desperately needed in this world, and the will and power to live it out is much needed.

Best wishes,
  Mats
