NEW TRACK: 風 の 行方 (Kaze no yukue) the japanese version by PREFIX...
When I first heard the wonderful music of Prefix I immediately though they would be the ideal duo to tackle the japanese version of the song. Everything was there, inspriring music, skilled composers and producers, a beautiful voice...
So I was very excited when TK and Mairi answered my request saying that it would not be easy, but that they were more than willing to take on the challenge.
When you will listen to the resulting track, I think you will agree with me that they have done a great job, and I hope it will inspire you to check out more of their music.

RELICS IX: ELEGY FOR AN ABANDONED DREAM
When I was a little boy, I always dreamed of being an airline pilot, spending so much time in the air above the clouds seemed amazing to me. However, soon I discovered that, because of my bad eyesight I would never qualify for such a job. This dream was one of the first I had to give up.
I still love flying and when I see pilots walking by in the airport I still think, what if...?
At a young age, I had to alter my goals and now I have become a different kind of aeronaut. These days, I take people on an imaginary journey through my paintings and music.
Having a dream can be a powerful motivation, and I believe we should all dare to dream, dreams keep us young.
A man with no dreams will turn old fast.
On the other hand, one should also be prepared to let go when realizing that a dream is unattainable. Stubbornly pursuing an impossible dream could turn out to be immobilizing, prevent you from growing and make you very unhappy.
This is an elegy for an abandoned dream... a sad and loving goodbye...
For the people who are interested in the orchestration:
Like in most of my music, a lot of the instruments are from the Vienna Symphonic Library : solo violin, solo viola, appassionata strings, concert guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet.
The sad wind instrument is the Armenian Duduk. It is often used in soundtracks (Gladiator, Passion of Christ, Rome, ...). This is the sampled version of the Silk library by East West.
From East West I also used the Bechstein piano, and the Symphonic Choirs.
The soprano and tenor are from Bela D Media. Although I like the samples, I would like to record this piece with real soloists some day.
The clematis picture was taken by my sister Gerda.
You can watch her beautiful photography at Flickr .
Songs of Love and Loss
For some time I have been working on a song cycle called "Songs of Love and
Loss". Since march this year I began recording the vocals with Ann Van Canegem, a vocalist with lots of experience in jazz and blues. This unexpected combination of my more classical background and her bluesy voice brings a special flavour to our music.
We are steadily recording and remixing all the songs and hope we will be able to release the album in 2008.
Every song has a dedicated page on my website, where you can listen to it along with the lyrics and read some song notes.
RELICS
“wandering in your mind
you might uncover the dust
of long forgotten memories
and relive days gone by
hear your laughter
as a little boy or girl
with sparkling dreams
of a future bright and promising
maybe you will catch a glimpse
of a loved one
who crossed the edge of forever
and read a book of love
once written in your heart
or perhaps, recover
that sweet moment of surrender
finding peace
listening to voices of hope
amid the relics
in your mind”
Relics is a journey into the mind
a collection of instrumental pieces, with variations on a recurring theme “Relics II” in between.
This video was made with pictures that I took in summer 2008 at Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and the WWII Memorial in Washington DC.
You can watch the video in HD on my website and download a version for your iPod.
"Dreams are buried here..." is a collaboration with 2 dear friends from MI7 (and also on myspace - see my top friends): Artie Q and Mindmovie.
You can listen to the complete piece along with the lyrics and read about the collaboration and history of the piece on my website. Please support our music and buy the tracks from iTunes or another download store.
The poppy pictures for the cover image were taken by my 15 year old son Corneel.
The poppy is used as a remembrance symbol for the fallen soldiers of World War I.
"In Flanders Fields" is one of the most famous poems written during the First World War, and has been called "the most popular poem" produced during that period. It is written in the form of a French rondeau. Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae wrote it on May 3, 1915, after he witnessed the death of his friend, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, the day before. The poem was first published on December 8, that year in Punch magazine.
You can read more about it on Wikipedia.

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn, or consumed. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude
By friendship you mean the greatest love, the greatest usefulness, the most open communication, the noblest sufferings, the severest truth, the heartiest counsel, and the greatest union of minds which brave men and women are capable.
- Jeremy Taylor

Great Thoughts Always Come From The Heart. - Marquis De. Vauvenargues The heart has a wisdom of its own. It is a nobler wisdom than that of the mind. Thoughts and beliefs differ. But the heart of humanity transcends differences and beats as one. It is difficult to know the complexity of another’s mind, but easy to know the simplicity of another’s heart.
Listen to the thoughts of your heart today…..Heart to Heart!! …Love Hope
