Blossom Street Gallery Art Show featuring Tra Slaughter, Sherry McKnight, and Jonathon Michael Espinoza whose works will be for sale! Also a satellite art auction to generate funds to help preserve the legacy of Tom Kennedy and his Shark Car 'Ripper' — Here are the details:
Silent Auction
To be held at: BLOSSOM STREET GALLERY
4809 Blossom St. Houston, Texas
Date: Saturday NOVEMBER 14, 2009 — World Art Car Day !
Time: 3-8 pm
All funds raised will go directly to support the storage, maintenance and transportation of Ripper. Ripper the Friendly Shark Car was Tom's first art car and is generally credited as being the first art car ever to go to burning man. The car was in an auto show in Germany and is currently stored in France. Tom's vision was to tour this car around the world and expose people to what he stood for: art, absurdity, crazy politic-in, peace and love... Let's keep his dreams, visions and inspiration alive!
Tra Slaughter Bio, I see painting as a means of telling a story with the sound turned down. So the use of old books, magazines, newspapers, maps, and the likes there of are my method, or chosen path for now, of recycling old stories into new stories of my own. Now these stories can become part of, or a starting point for future stories to be told and shared. I listen to music almost constantly, I even sleep with it on, and I find the rhythms and lyrics funnel right through my paintbrush and explode onto the canvas giving new dimensions to songs through my creations. My affinity for mixed media was born from artists that inspire me from the past and present as well as being inspired by my career as a graphic designer.
Sherry McKnight: "I've been drawing and painting since I was three years old. My inspiration comes from life, people, music, musicians and a vivid imagination."
