Abusive lending practices are hurting Americans. The lending industry continues to encourage and profit from our debt, and our government is not doing enough to stop the abuses and regulate the industry. We need to raise our voices together and make our outrage heard.
Here’s your chance to make your commitment to fair lending official. To endorse AFFIL’s Principles of Fairness in Lending, click here:
Americans For Fairness In Lending (AFFIL)is the collaborative effort of numerous partner and ally organizations, each contributing their expertise to AFFIL and the public through AFFIL activities. As a group, we are raising the volume of our collective outrage and shining a spotlight on predatory and unfair lending practices.
Check out Maxed Out, the documentary that takes viewers on a journey deep inside the American style of debt, where things seem fine as long as the minimum monthly payment arrives on time. With coverage that spans from small American towns all the way to the White House, the film shows how the modern financial industry really works, explains the true definition of "preferred customer" and tells us why the poor are getting poorer while the rich keep getting richer.
Credit card companies sign you up even if you have little or no income, knowing you'll trigger high "penalty" interest rates and fees. That's where they make their big $$$.
College students, young workers, immigrants, the elderly and others who are not aware of the traps get solicited the most and hit the hardest.
Free t-shirts, frisbees and pizza come at a dangerous cost. Your signature can lock in very unfair terms.
Credit card companies hire students to get their friends to sign up for cards that are filled with hidden fees and unfair terms.
And that's just credit cards! The subprime mortgage debacle is the same story of greed and abuse - not to mention abusive payday loans, car title loans, car financing, and more.

Thank you for being a friend, and hopefully we can stop lender like Wells Fargo from getting over on consumers. I have a question for you. Do you know what agency that I can contact to help me with automobile insurance claims? The California Department of Insurance is not very helpful.
great site. let us create a network of social change for social justice across the corporate-owned myspace universe and connect in real time and real life in the struggle on the streets.

Thanks for adding me. ¶ Our problems are diverse, but they have a common root: Bullies, liars, thieves, and murderers, including those in public office, believe people are motivated only by greed and fear. And they'd like us to share that belief, because they use it to justify all their actions and to manipulate us. But you and I have found LOVE inside ourselves and our friends, and it's in everyone if we can just wake them up. Spread the word. ¶ The USA's attack on Iraq has now been going on for 5 years. Like most wars, it is based on lies. The continuing occupation makes new enemies faster than it can kill them, a strategy beneficial only to arms dealers. Let's end the military-industrial complex. ¶ Don't scapegoat the immigrants -- they're only flooding into our economy because we wrecked theirs. So-called "free trade" and the "free market" are asymmetric, giving investors the freedom to shackle workers. The market's "efficiency" is a lie -- it externalizes costs, perpetuating the inefficiencies of war, poverty, and disease. Let's end the cruel and stupid corporatocracy, before it kills our ecosystem. ¶ We need government control over business, not the other way around; government should be by and for the PEOPLE. Transparency in government, public financing of election campaigns, ending corporate personhood, and trustbusting the news media would be a good start. Politicians should fear for their jobs; citizens shouldn't fear their government. Most of all, we need more people involved. ¶ Question authority. Carry on the struggle. Hold onto hope. Keep singing. - Eric
