In the Fall of 2002, a young Indiana girl moved west to persue her passion for art and found herself in the employ of a local framing company. It was in Portland, OR that Jess' sequestered vocal talent would come to the surface as she began writing songs with fellow frame shop employee, John B. John had another project on the side and saw early on that she would fit right into their ideal sound so he grabbed Jess by the ear and took her to meet Kevin B. - a naturally aspirated bass enigma from Portland with a high-end drive to create unique music. After securing the young but talented Colin I. [aka: Veal, aka: The Revolution] the four began writing and practicing their first arrangements in a basement just outside the Portland city limits, learning from every song and developing a style that reflected each musician's influence and personality.
They emerged in early 2005 at a small bar in S.E. Portland under the name "aflame", driven by a passion to express themselves through music in a provocative environment. With songs that suggest everything from awkward love and corrupt society to social change and existence on higher wavelengths, aflame writes to reflect the undercurrent in each member. Everyone contributes to the writing process to create something that no one person could have come up with on their own, and what you get in the end is a band whose sound is defined by it's members.
Ask the members of aflame to define the music they play and you'll find wandering eyes, frantically searching for the answer on each other's faces. They've only recently been able to push "alternative rock" through their teeth, it'll work for now. aflame is a collection of musicians with very diverse tastes in music that come together for an original sound all their own. Colin [a.k.a. The Revolution, a.k.a. Veal] brings a solid pulse to aflame with his heavy drumming style. He can make a lot happen when he spreads himself out on the kit but maintains an essential coherency with the bottom end, keeping the song [and band] focused while Kevin and John meander above with a more complicated rhythm and lead. Slide this trio under Jessica's sultry vocals and you get a new kind of mix that seems to have a little something for everybody...
A funny thing to do is, if you're out hiking and your friend gets bitten by a poisonous snake, tell him you're going to go for help, then go about ten feet and pretend that *you* got bit by a snake. Then start an argument with him about who's going to go get help. A lot of guys will start crying. That's why it makes you feel good when you tell them it was just a joke.
