África Gallego, ex vocalista de Mojo Project, presenta su primer disco en solitario, “A mi aire”, un trabajo a caballo entre el flamenco, el jazz y el funk que es el resultado de dos años de esfuerzos y compromisos.
La que fue líder de Mojo Project publica ahora un disco que es el resultado de una andadura musical que se remonta a 15 años de experiencia como cantante e instrumentista.
El nuevo trabajo de África, que presentado el último año en salas de toda España, ha tenido una primera acogida muy positiva entre el público y verá la luz en el mercado a principios de Abril de 2009
África Gallego, malagueña de Marbella, nació en Madrid por casualidad el 2 de agosto de 1972.
Séptima de ocho hermanos, desde pequeña empezó a cantar de la mano de su padre. Sus inicios dentro de la música fueron tocando el cajón. Con apenas 17 años, colaboraba y tocaba con varias bandas en Málaga. No fue hasta un par de años después cuando dio sus primeros pasos como vocalista en varios grupos amateurs.
La infancia y adolescencia de África Gallego se desarrollo entre su afición al mar y a la música. De personalidad inquieta, cursó estudios de enfermería al tiempo que aprendía música de forma autodidacta y practicaba la vela, el surf y el submarinismo.
Con 25 años, África deja su tierra natal y se traslada a Londres con lo puesto y 25.000 pesetas en el bolsillo para estudiar en el Westminster College. Durante los dos años siguientes fue la única cantante blanca del coro de gospel de esta institución.
Sin embargo, después de esta experiencia su carrera como cantante se ha desarrollado con más fuerza dentro del jazz, el flamenco y el funk; muy influenciada por otros ritmos como el reggae o el afrobeat.
Durante los dos años de estancia en Londres dio clases de canto y siguió formándose aprendiendo solfeo y a tocar la guitarra por su cuenta.
Tras dejar Londres, se trasladó a vivir a Cuba, donde perfeccionó su técnica con la flauta travesera.
En 1999, ya de vuelta en España, empezó a trabajar cantando en varios clubs de jazz de hoteles en Barcelona y Tenerife.
En 2000 llega a Madrid, donde conoció a Alejandro Acosta y juntos formaron Mojo Project. Lo que en un principio era un proyecto poco serio, se convirtió en los dos años siguientes, con la renovación y nuevos fichajes de músicos, en el que sería uno de los grupos revelación de 2003.
Después de más de dos años dando conciertos casi todas las semanas en las salas madrileñas, consiguieron un contrato con una discográfica independiente y sacaron su primer disco, ‘Taste de Mojo’. Un disco que fusionaba funky, flamenco
Mojo Project, con África Gallego a la cabeza, cosechó varios premios de reconocimiento con su primer trabajo como el de Mejor Grupo Revelación que otorga cada año Tentaciones de El País; El ImaginaRock y el premio Silicona.
África lideró Mojo Project durante los tres años siguientes hasta que, a finales de 2005, decide dejar el grupo y emprender su carrera en solitario.---------------------------------------

The one that was a leader of " Mojo Project" publishes now a disc that is the result of a musical gait that goes back to 15 years of experience as singer and instrumentalist.
The new work of Africa, that presented last year in club of Spain, has had a great reception among the public and the disc will see the light on the market at the beginning of April, 2008.
Africa Gallego, folksong of Malaga of Marbella, was born in Madrid on August 2, 1972.
Seventh of eight brothers, from small she started singing of the hand of her father. Her beginnings inside the music were touching the booth flamenco. With only 17 years, she was collaborating and touching with several bands in Malaga. It was not up to a couple of years later when she gave her first steps as vocalist in several groups amateurs.

With 25 years, Africa leaves her natal land and moves to London to study in the Westminster College. During two following years she was the unique white singer of the choir of gospel of this institution.
Nevertheless, after this experience her career like singer has developed with more force inside the jazz, the Fleming and the funk; very influenced by other redeam like the reggae or the afro beat.
During two years of stay in London she gave lessons of singing and continued being training learning solfeggio and to touch the guitar.
After leaving London, she moved to live through Cuba, where she perfected her skill with the flute.
In 1999, she return to Spain, and started working singing in several clubs of jazz of hotels in Barcelona and Tenerife.
In 2000 she move to Madrid, where she met Alejandro Acosta and together they formed" Mojo Project". What in a beginning was an undignified project, turned in two following years, with the renovation and musicians' new signings, the one that would be one of the groups revelation of 2003.
After more than three years giving concerts almost every week in the rooms of Madrid, they obtained a contract with the record independent and extracted her first disc, ' Taste de Mojo '. A disc that was fusing funky, Fleming
"Mojo Project", with Africa Gallego at the head, they harvested several prizes of recognition with there first work as that of Better Group Revelation that grants every year Temptations of El País newspaper; The ImaginaRock and the prize Silicona.
Africa led Mojo Project during three following years until, at the end of 2005, she decides to leave the group and to started her, career in solitary.
