Sometime in the early spring of 2008 two friends sped down an empty highway somewhere south of Vancouver. A fine layer of frost covered the early morning scene, and a less-than-fine layer of energy drinks and coffee cups were strewn about on the floor of an old Volkswagon. Spence drove on through the night (Casey rode shotgun) determined to find a guitar that was unavailable in Canada. Sometime before dawn Casey pointed to the starry sky that was obstructed by an unimaginable white light, which turned out to be a brilliant comet. The raw gravity of the view, (Combined with insomnia and too much caffine), provided all the inspiration and intuition needed to create a successful band. They decided to call up some old high school friends (AJ and Ryan) and start a band upon their return to Vancouver. Thus, A Frosty Comet was born.
In the span of a few short months, Spence wrote hundreds of songs, some of them co-written with Casey, many with Ryan, and a couple with AJ. During this time they were performing around Western Canada with various drummers, but something in their live show was missing. The four guys mutually felt a need to find the right drummer. They posted a “Drummer wanted” ad on Craigslist, the message went something like this : “Revelation in progress.. Play hard, sometimes light, versatile, fast, medium, slow, versatile, serious, solid, versatile, hungry, AFC . Music is fresh, powerful, mainstream, dance, pop rock, electronic, not-vancouver!...No egos, thanks” It was this ad that attracted Dov Kushnir to the lineup, who at the time was growing tired of the metal/hardcore band he was currently playing with.
After aquiring Dov to the lineup, the five chumps starting playing even more furiously. They made drastic changes to their lifestyles in dreams of a bigger future. They started combining everything they have, and contributing it all into AFC. They ended up meeting a Romanian pop producer Ovidiu Bistriceanu, who tracked, mixed, and recorded a four song demo at Mushroom Studios.
Since then, something has started to work, because they are now selling out local venues, and branching out along the west coast. This is the biography of A Frosty Comet so far, stay tuned for updates.
