After Forever foi originalmente formada em 1995 sob o nome Apocalypse, seu gênero era orientado ao death metal. Com a entrada da vocalista Floor Jansen em 1997, o estilo da banda mudou em disposição à dar ênfase para sua voz. Até aquele momento a banda era composta por Floor Jansen, Mark Jansen, Sander Gommans, Luuk van Gerven, Jack Driessen e Joep Beckers.

Em 1999 a banda começou compor canções próprias e gravaram duas demos - ntituladas Ephemeral e Wings of Illusion - que enventualmente chamaram atenção da gravadora Transmission Records,que assinou contrato com a banda. Seu álbum de estréia,o Prison of Desire lançado em 2000, teve, como convidada a vocalista Sharon den Adel, que fez participação na canção Beyond Me. O álbum foi muito bem recebido e possibilitou uma grande evolução para a banda. Neste mesmo ano, o baterista André Borgman juntou-se à banda, substituindo Joep Beckers e no final do ano o tecladista Jack Driessen também deixou o grupo,sendo substituído por Lando van Gils.

Em 2001 o álbum Decipher foi lançado. Floor Jansen foi convidada a cantar em Ayreon, um dos projetos de Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Em 2002 Mark Jansen sai do After Forever e monta a banda Epica, e é substituído por Bas Maas. No ano de 2003 o After Forever lançou a EP Exordium. Em 2004,o álbum conceitual Invisible Circles foi lançado.Ele chegou a alcançar a posição de 26º no Top 100 das paradas holandesas. No mesmo ano, Lando van Gils também deixa a banda e é substituído por Joost van den Broek.No começo de Setembro de 2005, foi lançado o álbum Remagine.

Em 3 de Março de 2006, a banda deixou a gravadora Transmission Records,devido a escassa promoção proveniente da mesma. Em Outubro do mesmo ano, eles assinaram com a Nuclear Blast Records. No final de 2006 a banda gravou um novo álbum, intitulado After Forever,que conta com as participações do guitarrista da banda Annihilator Jeff Waters e da cantora Doro Pesch. Segundo Sander Gommans,"você pode ouvir a energia de Prison Of Desire, a melancolia de Decipher, a abordagem progressiva de Invisible Circles e os elementos mais acessíveis contidos em Remagine. É impossível sermos mais After Forever do que isso".Neste álbum, o grupo dá continuidade às tendências de Remagine e se distancia um pouco mais de Prison of Desire e Decipher.O After Forever demonstra ser uma das maiores bandas de seu gênero, revolucionando os conceitos de metal, sem se limitar à fronteiras comerciais.

Em Janeiro de 2008, After Forever anunciou em seu website que a banda daria um tempo de, pelo menos, um ano.Em uma entrevista com a rádio Ragnarök, Floor disse que a banda se juntaria no início de 2009 para discutir o futuro do After Forever.

No dia 5 de fevereiro de 2009, a banda anunciou seu fim. Segundo comunicado no site ficial, a pausa em 2008 e parte de 2009 fez com que percebessem não terem mais energia para continuar.

After Forever was originally formed in 1995 under the name Apocalypse, her gender was to death metal. With the entry of vocalist Floor Jansen in 1997, the band's style has changed to make more emphasis on voice. Until that time the line-up band was Floor Jansen, Mark Jansen, Sander Gommans, Luuk van Gerven, Jack Driessen and Joep Beckers.
In 1999 the band started composing their own songs and recorded two demos - entitled "Ephemeral" and "Wings of Illusion" - eventually drew attention of the Transmission Records label, which signed contract with the band. His debut album Prison of Desire launched in 2000, had as a guest vocalist Sharon den Adel, who participate in the song Beyond Me The album was well received and has a great evolution for the band. In the same year, drummer André Borgman joined the band, replacing Joep Beckers and by year end keyboardist Jack Driessen also left the group, being replaced by Lando van Gils.


In 2001 the album Decipher was released. Floor Jansen was invited to sing in Ayreon, one of the projects of Arjen Anthony Lucassen. In 2002 Mark Jansen of After Forever comes out and make the band Epica, and is replaced by Bas Maas. In 2003 the After Forever released the EP Exordium.

In 2004, the concept album Invisible Circles was released. It reached 26th place in the Dutch Top 100 musical chart. Lando van Gils also left the band and was replaced by Joost van den Broek in the same year.In beginning September 2005, the album Remagine was released.


On March 3, 2006, the band left the label Transmission Records, due to poor promotion from it. In October of that year they signed with Nuclear Blast Records. In late 2006 the band recorded a new album, After Forever, with the participation of the band Annihilator guitarist Jeff Waters and singer Doro Pesch. According Sander Gommans, "you can hear the energy of Prison Of Desire, the melancholy of Decipher, the progressive approach of Invisible Circles and the information contained in Remagine more accessible. It is impossible to be more After Forever than that." In this album, the Band builds on the trends of Remagine and distance is a little more and Prison of Desire , Decipher. After Forever was prove was one of the biggest bands and revolutionizing the concepts of metal, but not limited to border trade.

In January 2008, After Forever has announced on its website that the band would give a time of at least one Year a radio interview with Ragnarok, Floor said the band will join in early 2009 to discuss the future of After Forever.

On February 5th 2009 , After Forever announced that they decided to call it quits. The break in 2008, and partly 2009, made them realize that they do not feel the energy towards the band anymore.
