Not heard of AFTERSHOW? Well, listen up...Think you know DISCO? It’s all “Y.M.C.A.”, afro wigs, “Kung Fu Fighting”, white waistcoats and “Stayin’ Alive” right?
Think again. Forget cheese. Remember champagne and cocaine, hotpants and rollerskates, and the greatest music ever made.
You heard that right. DISCO IS THE GREATEST MUSIC EVER MADE, and we hold that truth to be self-evident.
AFTERSHOW is a world where Nile Rodgers and Giorgio Moroder are God. Aftershow is a club which contends that the most important No.1 of the summer of 1977 was not “God Save The Queen”, but “I Feel Love”.
Disco liberated a whole generation, vaporising the battle lines between gay and straight, black and white, male and female (it was disco that taught men to dance). Disco democratised luxury: gave glamour to the people, made everyone into a star on a Friday night.
Like our 1970s ancestors, we want our piece of that glamour. We wanna be lost in music on the eternal dancefloor. We wanna surrender to the sublime, uplifting mirrorball sound of the strings and synths, the guitar chops and the hi-hat (If you want to know what we‘re talking about, see the list). Music which can give you a rush like no other. Music which can lift you out of yourself. Music which flies.
The records we play may mainly be 25 or 30 years old, but Aftershow has no interest in kitsch retro revivalism. Instead we aim to rekindle the hysterically hedonistic, decadently Dionysian spirit of Studio 54 and its thousand-strong sister clubs across the globe.
BILLY REEVES (Uncle Bob’s Wedding Reception) and SIMON PRICE (Stay Beautiful) are your Steve Rubell and Michael Alig (hopefully without the murders and prison sentences, but que sera sera). Every Aftershow party is alegendary night, talked about for weeks until it’s time for the next one.
Our friends are those who:
1. DRESS UP. That might mean your sharpest suit or your sexiest party frock, and it might mean something more outlandish. That's your call.
2. DANCE. This isn’t a night for wallflowers, voyeurs, or beery, leery blokes at the bar. This is a night to get up, stand up, and strut your funky stuff. Sho’ nuff…
3. Have the time of their LIVES.
We love the nightlife. We’ve got to boogie. On the disco round, oh yeah.
