ULTRAGORE #008: HELICOPTER SHOWDOWN—THE WRESTLER EP

The San Francisco Bay has been traditionally known as a hotbed of underground sounds by those
fortunate enough to know where to look. For a time, the East Bay hyphy movement had kids
from Santa Rosa to Salinas ghost ridin’ the whip, and for years the underground warehouses
and speak-easys of The City have been owned by the warm thump of quality house music.
More recently though, dubstep has been creating a foothold on the Golden Gate, with a slew of
emerging artists carving out a space in the underground music scene both locally and nationally.

New kid on the block to SFO bass music, Helicopter Showdown is set to take the dubstep world
by storm with their blistering production style and heavy sound. Comprised of area producers
Blake Powers, Joshua Small, Devan Day, Ryan Wade, the foursome has their eyes set on bass
music domination with their tracks getting support from BARE, Mark Instinct, Vaski, JOGO,
Liquid Stranger, and Point.blank.

On their debut EP, The Wrestler, the foursome releases their night terrors inducing sound on the
world with a fearsome five-pack not for the faint of heart.

On the title track, The Showdown joins Sluggo for a big slice of epic rave tear-out, sure to keep
heads high and hands up. With Life On The Edge, HS takes things up a notch with a plodding
stepper heavy on the murder bass low end.

Digital blood-lust takes center stage on The Terror, as a slew of arpeggiated wind-ups and
slow-downs keep ‘em guessing. Belgian duo Point.blank take remix duties on The Terror
(Point.blank Remix) with murderous results, and to round out the EP, HS throws an audio curve
ball on Push Forward. Blending serene ambience and a squelching low end, they create what is
easily the most diverse track on the EP.

Heavy on bass with a style all their own, Helicopter Showdown show and prove with The
Wrestler EP.

Die Band wird Anfang 1999 gegründet und kann sich durch ihre große Livepräsenz schnell eine treue Fangemeinschaft erspielen. Vom positiven Feedback und dem Wunsch nach Mehr motiviert nahmen die "Orangen" im Januar 2002 ihre erste EP namens "Many Melodies" auf. Produziert wurde das Ganze von Charly T. dem damaligen M.M. Westernhagen Schlagzeuger. 2003 wird die Band von Ex-Toten Hosen Drummer Wolfgang "Wölli" Rohde entdeckt. Er wählt die Band aus über 300 Bewerbern aus um sein Festival "Rock am Turm" zu eröffnen. In den folgenden zwei Jahren widmen sich die vier Jungs ausschließlich ihrer Musik. Es werden neue Songs geschrieben und kräftig geprobt. Im Sommer 2005 entscheidet sich Wölli, inzwischen Labelchef von Goldene Zeiten Records, die Band unter Vertrag zu nehmen und den ersten Longplayer der Band zu veröffentlichen. Das Debüt Album wird im Januar 2006 von Uwe Sabirowsky (Beatsteaks, Thumb, Keith Caputo etc.) produziert und im Mai 2006 veröffentlicht. Die anschließende Tour führt die Vier durch Clubs und Festivals in ganz Deutschland. Sie spielen mit Bands wie Donots, Such a Surge, Emil Bulls, etc. Auf Einladung des maltesischen Fernsehens spielen AGE OF ORANGE einige Shows auf Malta. Nach einer intensiven Songwriting Phase sowie diversen Live Shows mit Bands wie Therapy?, Dog Eat, Dog, Muff Potter und vielen anderen, kehren die Jungs im April 2009 ins Studio zurück und spielen ihr zweites Album "Across the shades" ein. Die Presse schreibt: "Das Punkrock-Quartett AGE OF ORANGE hat dem Geist des Rock 'n' Roll auf die Sprünge geholfen". Über "Across the Shades": Zurück in die Zukunft. Unbeschwert, emotional, voller Wut und Freude zugleich. Carpe Diem und Resignation. Die vier Mönchengladbacher der Band AGE OF ORANGE kommen mit Ihrem zweiten Studioalbum „Across the Shades" als gereifte Rockband daher. Ihr internationaler Sound erinnert an Klänge, die man in der Blüte der 90er Jahre aus Städten wie Seattle oder Los Angeles vernahm. Dabei kommen AGE OF ORANGE stets überraschend frisch und aktuell um die Kurve. Mit ihrem Mix der Genres stürzen die "Orangen" die Diktatur des Mainstream, brechen mit den gängigen Hörgewohnheiten des Rock-Publikums und transportieren die Erwartungen stets auf neue Ebenen. Das Album "Across the Shades" ist angesiedelt in der musikalischen Twilightzone, wo Grunge und Pop, Punk und Hype, hart und soft verwischen. "In allen Aspekten des Lebens gibt es Ängste und Ungewissheiten und niemand redet darüber. Du weist nie was passieren wird also nimm es selbst in die Hand". Diese Gedanken haben "Across the Shades" geformt. "Wir haben alles rausgelassen. Es geht um Wendepunkte".
