Influences
we are influenced by the force. the force is an energy field created by all living things. it binds us together and guides us all in our own individual paths. you can feel the force swirling around you and through you if you stretch out with your feelings. go ahead, close your eyes, picture your surroundings. feel the force penetrate you, draw you in and put you in harmony with all that is around you. the force is everywhere. the rock, the tree, the swamp, the x-wing fighter, the computer and the mouse. we use the force to write songs. sometimes the force will fuck with us, and give us up some bunk shit, and that's when we have to be like "c'mon force, shit! it's like you're not even trying! don't make us turn to the dark side" and then the force will be all "allright bitch, you want some?" and that's when we really feel it, and write some super-catchy dope shit!
Sounds Like
“Genius, genius. What can you do? This is total genius. The incomparable…A Gun That Shoots Knives, has…invented a genre and probably destroyed one or two along the way. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be squeaky clean!” - MP3 JACKPOT“
Lest you think A Gun That Shoots Knives are a gimmick band… they are anything but. They can get away with wearing ridiculous costumes (or anything else) because they give one great song after another, featuring catchy licks, elastic vocals (by a number of band members), with true rock’n'roll strut. To call the lead singer of A Gun That Shoots Knives charismatic or magnetic are the greatest of understatements, but I can’t think of better words… he’s writhing on his knees, covered in teddy bear blood… this is MY kind of party!!” - SOUND ON THE SOUND
“A Gun That Shoots Knives - like the vague ghost of a shitty 1970s porno. Their sound is like a mix-tape of what must be a huge list of influences. The singer's high, nasal voice immediately reminded this reviewer of Nardwuar the Human Serviette of the Evaporators. The content matter of the songs lies in the same vein, with subjects ranging from: soap, the mailman, and a punk song about the Karate Kid. Though AGTSK's past, present and future appear to be a bit muddied by confusing, if not fantastic details, a few facts are known indefinitely…the band's unfettered creativity is inspiring, and that mixed with the desire to give a good performance is an entertaining combination. They are quickly becoming a favorite in this town!” - WHAT’S UP MAGAZINE
“’This has gone on for way too long,’ someone observed about a third of the way through their set. His sentiment was echoed in other anxious remarks from the crowd. The problem was that most folks in the audience couldn't tell if A Gun That Shoots Knives were joking. You can't blame people for hollering: ‘We're all confused!’" - SEATTLE WEEKLY
“Basically, if the guys from They Might Be Giants grew up obsessed with Star Wars and 50s creature features, then took a bunch of drugs while listening to Cake and Frank Zappa, they’d almost certainly make music similar to AGTSK…if you had to compare AGTSK to bands that actually exist, Ween, The Dead Milkmen and Stereopathic Soul Manure-era Beck come to mind. I think what we like most about this band is that there’s obviously a lot of musical talent here, but they don’t let it affect their unpretentious and amusing style. In fact, their ability to write catchy tunes complimented by some rockin’ instrumentation only enhances their sound – it’s an unorthodox range, but it’s an impressive combination nonetheless.” - THE SPOKANE SIDEKICK

If you like the way we sound and want us to show up at your place, get a hold of us! We are very flexible, and we good lookin'. Shortly after forming 'a gun that shoots knives' we were visited by ourselves from the future. they said that they were sick of the groupies and private jets and shit and that we should trade places for a while. of course we jumped on the opportunity, and spent five years reigning as the most popular band on earth. people said they were happy that we had 'gone back to our roots' when in actuality, we hadn't even written any songs yet. after the future, we spent some time touring around other dimensions, then back to the future, and then we decided that we wanted to see what it would be like to be unpopular and play little clubs instead of packed stadiums, so we came back to the year 2005 and traded places with ourselves. so far it has been really fun. you should come see our band now, before it costs $500 to do so.
