After the success of acid house anthem Voodoo Ray and a brief period stifled by (signed with) Sony A Guy Called Gerald (AGCG) found solace in the underground and explored his fascination with the breakbeat. He launched his own label, Juice Box Records and in 1992 compiled an album of the first year's 12s called “28 Gun Bad Boy”. It was a pioneering album that harnessed the brutal dynamics of jungle techno as it was known at the time.

In 1995, after a string of pioneering releases on Juice Box, AGCG released the classic "Black Secret Technology" LP. "Black Secret Technology" featured vocals from a then unknown Finley Quaye on "Finley’s Rainbow" helping to launch Finley’s successful solo career. Gerald’s forward thinking music led to invitations from other artists such as Tricky, The Stone Roses, Goldie, Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock and most notably David Bowie on collaborations, tours and remixes.

In 1998 after 32 releases Juice Box closed it's doors and Gerald relocated to NYC.

A Guy Called Gerald spent the greater part of the next six years producing his fourth album (the last two years in NYC) "Essence," featuring vocal contributions from Lamb’s Louise Rhodes, MC Kusta, singer/songwriter Wendy Page, and Lady Miss Kier. It was released on !K7 Records in August 2000. “Essence” also featured singles with remixes from Ian Simmonds, Funkstörung and Ashley Beedle.

In 2004 once again A Guy Called Gerald launched a new label solely for his more breakbeat / jungle oriented material "PROTECHSHON". A limited edition "Is Man In Danger" 12" was the first release. And it doesn't stop there. Following on from 2006's PROTO ACID / THE BERLIN SESSIONS, AGCG is now back in the studio preparing for the second in his series of LIVE recorded albums - this time it's back in the jungle.
