About me: I was once a commander of U.S. Army Paratroopers, until one night I jumped out into the wind and rain, sustaining a serious injury that left me disabled - but, as I've recently learned, not destroyed.
For the last five years or so I've struggled to find a new identity, and to overcome my disabilities. I like to think I'm winning the struggle, that I'm ahead in the race. I've found a new identity not in the sky, but in the sea - and the mysteries that it poses, along with the freedoms that it grants. Learning SCUBA has enabled me to explore this new world, and one of my current passions is helping other disabled veterans who are struggling to cross oceans of pain and memory by teaching them to find solace, as I have, in the cradle of life that is the sea.
I'm also interested in writing, and am working actively on a novel, as well as some other projects including inspirational pieces and poetry. My subject matter is the stuff that we all face: pain, love, pride, regret, despair, hope, anger, and forgiveness. I keep a blog here where I occasionally post excerpts from my novel projects, shorts, poetry, and other things.
Ocean conservation is important to me, and I am interested in producing educational materials for schools, to help teach the mystery and the value of the sea.
Most important to me is understanding how forgiveness and healing happen in the human spirit; both are things that I actively seek, for both myself and those in my life.
Love, in all its forms, is the most potent of human forces. Believe that, and it will change you - live it, and it will change the world.
Who I'd like to meet: Other disabled vets - particularly if you live in Georgia and are interested in learning SCUBA.
Writers - because I am interested in your work.
Animal-lovers - because my wife and I help rescue local animals from bad situations and find them good homes.
Other SCUBA divers - especially if you live in Georgia and want to help teach vets.
I'm so glad that you are back blogging. By the way, I almost have broken Lee down about a puppy for Christmas. We are getting married on the 22nd of December and I thought that on Christmas a puppy would be a great gift for the boys. Think your lovely bride could find me a lucky candidate?
Happy Birthday a couple of days early my friend. I miss your blogs but I truly hope that you are doing well. May you get whatever you wish for and the best that life has to hand you.
Thanks for the add! It's an honor. You are a true soldier-philosopher and I'm proud to know you even though we've never met in person. I like your writing and hope you continue to develop it as you re-learn so many other things in your life. Best, Russell (FnG_7uh)
Enjoyed checking out your blog today. I have a Sibe who likes the water too... I read that they didn't. She proved the books wrong. Thanks for the add!
