About me:
Some people call me Toni...Some people call me Ming...Still the same girl.
One part Visionary. One part Sage. To describe Ms. Martin is to understand her voracious passion for creating art and purveying culture, as these intrinsic elements define who she is. Further exploration reveals a rich legacy of artists and activists in Dominga’s bloodline- her mother, for one, is a political activist and recipient of the prestigious Martin Luther King Drum Major for Justice Award. “She always taught me to stand up for myself and speak up and change things if needed.”
A journalist by trade, Dominga’s diverse talents span everything from fashion to film. As a former VJ for Atlanta’s premiere video Show “In the Mixx”, she mingled and interviewed with today’s best and brightest entertainers including Outkast, Goodie Mob, Sean Combs, and Ludacris, to name a few.
From her experiences as a VJ, she established her own event planning company, Bubble City, and produced fashion shows featuring celebrity models such as PINK. Ms. Martin worked closely with Afeni Shakur and the Tupac Shakur Estate, planning the family reunion, and closing ceremonies for the launch of his summer camp in Atlanta, GA. She also organized poetry events that were the precursor to Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Jam, and introduced literary talents GA.ME, Abyss, and Jon Goode into the mainstream.
In 2001, Dominga branched out to other creative endeavors and formed house of Ming, a film production company that has developed two short films; “bum.” and “Yellow.” “bum.” received acclaim at the Roxbury Film Festival (2001). “Yellow” was featured in the 9th Annual Reel Sisters Film Festival (2006) the Hollywood Black Film Festival (2006) and BET J’s The Best Shorts (Oct. 2006) and a host of other festivals in NYC and LA.
More recently, Ms. Martin combined her love of film and fashion and launched tamBoi, a t-shirt line feminizing icons such as The Godfather, Scarface and Che Guevara. The t-shirt line has been in high demand since its launch in May 2006, including The GRAMMY FOUNDATION, where she provided T-Shirts for a celebration for Miami’s Mayor.
Martin has already heralded journalist career success with publications Rolling Out, Atlanta, and launched Rolling Out, New York. She has also freelanced for VIBE, UPSCALE magazines, Men’s Fitness online and Blackfilm.com. It was as the Editor-in-Chief of a start up publication, where she met Gladymir Leveille and Creme Magazine was born. “We started Creme to fill a void in the publishing industry and cater towards an older crowd that still wants to be in the know.”
As a young professional and tastemaker herself, Dominga understands the lack of media offering a well rounded, yet stylish, sophisticated and intellectual approach to entertainment, fashion, culture, arts, and politics. Dominga and Gladymir launched Creme Magazine in 2004.
Dominga, originally from Boston, Massachusetts, attended Clark Atlanta University where she studied Radio, TV, Film and Journalism.
