Leonidas Loizides is proud to announce the production of another Greek tragedy written by Euripides, Troades. The performance is scheduled to tour in USA from 18/9/2009 till 30/11/2009. The warm response that Vakhes met from every American state they were presented during 2008 induces the theatrical scheme with the moral obligation to stay loyal to the initial task, which is the continuous, intercultural contact of the audience around the world with the Greek heritage, through the poetry of Euripides.
The play will be presented in the Greek and/or English language with English hyper-titles. The rendering and translation of the text is made by Michael Kakoyiannis. The great director shared the vision of Leonidas thus trusted him with his translation of “Trojan Women”. The music of the performance is by itself an element that makes this production appealing, since Mikis Theodorakis, the world famous composer, a Greek symbol of culture, honors Leonidas Loizides by enriching the play with the music he has written for the film Troades in 1965 (directed by Michalis Kakogiannis). This musical composition will be used on a theatre scene for the first time thus forming a bridge between the arts of cinema and theatre. The production is organized by PAIDEIA and its director Ilias Tomazos with the support of SAE and its director Theodoros Spyropoulos as well as HANC and its director Manolis Velivasakis (Hellenic American National Council) and Theodoros Laliotis, President of the Hellenic Federation of Northern California and Board member of SAE-USA and HANC.. It is also supported by Mr. Andreas Dimitriou, Ministrer of Education and Culture of Cypriot Democracy.
Troades is a tragedy pointing out that in the war there are neither winners nor losers. However, even t
