There have been countless influences from a widespread mixture of the artistic world; everything from the written to the sung to the rapped to stories told. Here's at least some of them: RAP: Tupac, Eminem, Fabolous, Mase, Dr. Dre, Ludacris, Master P, Biggie, 50 Cent & G-Unit, etc - ROCK: Trent Reznor & Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Chris Cornell & AudioSlave, Nirvana, Tool, etc - A lot of old school rap & rock, many literary influences such as writers/authors (including Michael Crichton, John Grisham), many songwriters, and even poets have influenced me in writing and music over the years. I've always possessed a love for literature, the performance arts, and music itself--all genres. To anybody who's ever written with intent and performed with passion, you're an inspiration.
Sounds Like
I've always strived for originality as opposed to being someone who sounds just like something else. But furthermore what I'm really going to use this section for is to explain how I became a rap artist so if the curiosity strikes you, keep reading. - Around the age of six-years-old, I had developed a strong urge to draw which later led to an urge to explain things behind pictures and images I created. One day, I figured out exactly what to do with that urge and picked up a crayon--yeah, a crayon--and wrote my first story. I began writing stories (books, you can call them) about anything I felt driven to write about. It became serious enough that a hardworking single mother got young Ash (her son) a word processor to type stories into rather than using the old pen and paper. This went on for a while and as the years progressed, I grew more and more interested in poetry and music which gave me a new drive: to songwrite. I started out with poems--all kinds. Rhymed lines about my experiences, my feelings (good or bad), humorous rhymes about school or work, even romantic words to swoon the girlfriend at the time, whatever--anything and everything went. One of the most influential parts naturally were other people's reactions. It was addictive to entertain and to stimulate people--to make them think. So eventually, songwriting overtook most of my writing direction. I wrote songs that would be sung, poems that would be read, and rhymes that would be rapped. Over time, I found that rap was my most preferred way to express myself. It was the way I felt most able to word the things I'd been through, to get things off my chest, to sum things up and make sense of life. I loved to rhyme, I loved how much I could say in just one verse, and many days I feel I have a lot to say. I still enjoy writing a story, I still enjoy writing all flavors of songs, but you can safely say that rap is my dominant. So here I am, doing what I do because it's what I love to do, and I don't plan to stop. My thanks goes out to all who've backed me along the way and all who support me now. The appreciation I have for you is immeasurable.
I have performed for many large amounts of people with nothing except my beats in the background and my voice above the crowd. My fan base stretches to many places though I am currently unsigned. Right now, I'm sending my six-track demo CD out to record labels looking to take it all to the next level. There's nothing that's made more sense in my life than writing. It has always been and will always be a part of my life in some form or another. Passion, truth, experience, and imagination are what drive me. Though unsigned, I've been asked for autographs and to be taken picture of with people I've come in contact with--people who generously lent their ears to me to listen to what I say. I've been specifically told that not only are my lyrics original, deep, and alive, but that I am also an astounding live performer. I do it because I love it. And when I see other people relating to the words, vibing on the beat, and being moved by what I feel or what I've felt, it becomes more than just doing what I enjoy. It becomes doing something that can make a difference in something or someone. Whether it's a song to make you laugh or a song to ease your pain, someone can get something out of it. If I can ease my own pain or bring joy to myself by writing and performing, what could be more rewarding than granting such things to someone who's listening. In those moments that that happens, it feels like everybody wins. Thanks to God, and to all of you, to all my support--my fans and friends, family--anyone who's been there to clap their hands or request one more song before the night's over, thank you.
