Graduating in 1994 with a Bachelors degree in Fine Art from the University of Texas, San Antonio, Cats specialty was in portraits. She put these skills to the test in late 2004 illustrating over 130 cards for the Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith project. Staggs says she loves the fact that all fans have a chance to be mini-art collectors thanks to Topps. Many fans that collect the Topps Artist Sketch Cards may recognize Staggs' uniquely realistic style from her portraits of such characters as Darth Vader, General Grievous, Chewbacca, Yoda and her favorite Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The highly-collectible artist sketch cards brought Staggs into the Star Wars fan forefront and she quickly took on other projects including a Celebration III Convention exclusive print, drawing tutorials, and Halloween masks for the kids section of starwars.com.
Last fall, Topps returned with another sketch card project, this too for a large franchise, The Lord of the Rings:Evolution. This time, Cat completed over 500 mini masterpieces, each one as unique as the last. She also ventured out into color with a good portion of the total in full color. She was pleased to join the other forty-eight artists involved in one of the best selling sets, having sold out of the hobby edition in its first week.
Spring 2006, Cat again was asked to work on another sketch card project for Breygent. This set would be for the classic Wizard of Oz. She completed 250 cards, including 50 full-color, large format cards. While working on this project, another came to her desk: X-Men: The Last Stand for Rittenhouse(page 1 and 2). Cat completed 300 cards. Both sets released in the summer of 2006.
In between card projects, Cat has also worked on cover work, including two covers for Mortal World entertainment as well as a collector's edition program cover for the Dallas Comic Con featuring Karen Allen.
The end of 2006 included sketch card projects featuring 200 5" x 7" cards for the Complete Marvel Avengers, 231 cards forThe Lord Of the Rings Masterpieces and 300 cards for Universal Monsters: Frankenstein.
Upcoming projects include Hellboy: Sword of Storms sketch card set another exclusive print for Lucas Film and Celebration IV as well as a project for DC Comics and various other sketch card sets.
Lord of the Rings Masterpieces will be updated regularly until the cards release in October 2006
