BIOGRAPHY:
Aivar’s reggae foundation fluidly blends rock, ska, funk, blues, and folk music together to create the positively charged unique sound that can be found in original titles such as “Lost in Love” and “Music Train.” From their positive lyrics, optimistic attitude, and unyielding professionalism, Aivar brings a message of peace to the stage and delivers a high-energy performance that is suitable for all ages.
Named 2nd “Best Local Band” by Metro Magazine in 2008 and 2009, Aivar has undoubtedly begun to make their name and reputation known in the scene. “Fronted by Chris Reed and featuring a powerhouse lineup heavily steeped in talent and dub-funk aesthetic, Aivar pulls influences from across the musical spectrum to form a sound that could get a kick-ass party going at a retirement home without the need for pharmaceutical aids.” (Metro Magazine Silicon Valley, September 24-30 2008)
Formed in 2006, Aivar got their unusual name from a delicious Mediterranean vegetable spread by the name of Ajvar. Much like their style of music, the subtle flavors of Croatian spice, Latin chili’s, and Mediterranean sweetness mixed together create a delicious blend of savory perfection. Although the band loved the delicious spread, they didn't want to be associated directly with the Ajvar brand; so they dropped the "J", replaced it with an "I" and AIVAR was born.
Now, 3 years later, Aivar has earned respect and recognition from top grossing acts such as Collie Buddz and The Dirty Heads. Other acts that Aivar has had the honor of performing with include Eek-A-Mouse, The English Beat, The Supervillains, Sashamon, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, The Mystic Roots Band, Iration, The Wailing Souls, Booker T, Lyrics Born, The Mumlers, 880 South, Kung Fu Vampire, Mike Pinto, The Holdup, Top Shelf, Still Time, Insolence, Rise of the Revolution, The Skaflaws, and Tribal Seeds to name a few.
In August of 2009, Aivar released their completely independent and self-titled album to much acclaim on the local scene. Along with hard copies, Aivar has had a simultaneous CD release on sites such as Amazon, iTunes, and CD Baby. The 11-track album has begun to turn heads in California and has graced Aivar with the honor of performing at The Vans Warped Tour in recent months. With focus, purpose, and drive, Aivar is looking towards the future in reggae music. Keep your eyes and ears open for more from Aivar in 2010.
OUR COMMUNITY:
Another noticeable aspect to the band’s activities are their performances at countless private and public festivals in the Bay Area. After assisting, coordinating, and performing in San Jose’s first Left Coast Live Festival, it had greater success in its first year than the famous South by Southwest.
As opportunities have come up for Aivar, they have made it a point to always give back to the community. One popular frequent example is the weekly open-mics that the band hosts. These events have been amazing environments for young performers to hone their artistic crafts and skills without prejudice.
Networking with countless bands and organizations, such as Dub Rock Records/Left Coast Boardwear and Ineffable Music Group, has always been an important business component towards the band’s progress and success. As the members of Aivar prepare for the release of their debut self-titled album, “aivar”, they get ready to finish the year strong by evoking their feel good music all across the west coast.
