CURRENTLY FEATURING . . . . . "SUMMER'S GONE" BY RACHEL HARRINGTON (from "The Bootlegger's Daughter" cd) INTERESTS: Whatever catches my attention . . . but especially music (as a fan) - I'm always looking for new (or new to me) musicians that sing/write the real deal. And quilting - I freely admit I'm a fabricaholic - and I have no desire to be cured. Things that allow me to be creative. I'm also a voracious reader, and have been known to panic if I'm without something to read for too long. Bowling. Sharks hockey. "In Color" Jamey Johnson ********************************************************** Where to start? I love almost all types of music (with a few notable exceptions). Was raised on classical and folk, and singing in school/church choir (lots of madrigals and musicals) - but what I listen to the most and am most passionate about: Americana/roots country and real country. No mainstream poptry c*#@ for me, thank you very much. My absolute favorite - Emmylou Harris (she's been providing the soundtrack to my life since 1976). Other favorites: Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Utah Phillips, Kevin Welch, Gram Parsons, Jerry Jeff Walker, James McMurtry, Rodney Crowell, Merle Haggard, the Hanks, the Grateful Dead, Waylon, Willie, Kelly Willis, Karen Collins, Halden Wofford & the Hi*Beams, the Mother Truckers, Steeleye Span (n/c, but I love them), John Hartford, James Hand, JB Beverley & the Wayward Drifters, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Tom Russell, Kenneth Brian . . . and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
  • Movies

Much to hubby's dismay, I frequently go for movies with subtitles (that reading thing again . . . ) No particular genre, again whatever catches my attention. Some all-time favorites: "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", "King of Hearts", "Tanpopo", "Star Wars", "Roman Holiday", "To Kill a Mockingbird", "While You Were Sleeping", "Little Miss Sunshine"
  • Television

Don't watch anything on a regular basis except for "Jeopardy" and the Sharks.
  • Books

Just about anything I can get my hands on, though I tend to avoid the likes of Grisham/Patterson, can't stand Koontz or bodice rippers. Love HARD sci-fi when I can find it. Will read anything by Gail Tsukiyama, Sharon Shinn, Sherri Tepper. Recent reads: "Water for Elephants" (Sara Gruen); "Truck - A Love Story" (Michael Perry - laughed all the way through this - great book!); "Three Cups of Tea" {Mortensen/Relin - anybody who's ever asked what just one person can do should read this!); "Breaking the Tongue" (Vyvyane Loh); "Queen of Dreams" (Chitra Banerjee Divakuruni); "The Big Bamboo" (Tim Dorsey - love his stuff), "The Road" (Cormac McCarthy) LIFE IS SHORT - READ FAST!!
  • Heroes

My mother and my father. All those willing to speak out and act when they encounter injustice.

I'm the product of one of the world's great love stories>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Photobucket Photobucket my parents, Russ & Ruth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Started out life as a Navy brat; married with one kidlet (wanted more, but it didn't work out that way.) I love my family, my cats, americana/roots country & traditional country music, quilting and the San Jose Sharks - though not necessarily in that order on any given day. I'm a California girl through and through, couldn't imagine living anywhere else, at least not for long. Guess living on the lunatic fringe suits me - that and I don't do snow or humidity. Started out in archaeology, but have spent more time working for a non-profit than I ever did in the field. Love my job and what we do.

Who I'd like to meet:
